I don’t get the 48 V architecture. Will it make my headlights brighter or my stereo sound better ?? The world is set up for 12 V. That means all the accessories are 12 V all the stereo equipment is 12 V everything Electrical is 12 V I don’t understand what Tesla’s doing ?What does 48 V do for me. What was the problem with the old system? please enlighten me. also, when I’m out on a road trip and my car breaks down or something burns out ,it’s gonna be next to impossible to get parts out on the road

Good set of questions. You only need to understand one simple electric formula. Power in Watt (W) = Current in Amp (A) x Voltage (V).
For the same amount of power (or work pulling the cable of your winch) if you increase the voltage on this circuit by four (i.e., 12v X 4 to 48V) you can reduce the current going in the copper cables by 4. This reduces the weight AND cost of the cooper cabling by a lot if you convert 12V to 48V. Tesla IS moving toward this 48V architecture for sure. It makes sense.

In fact, it is surprising they have not done that yet. Even new Electric Vehicles (EVs) currently have the old lead-acid battery. You can imagine when your EV is out of service because your small 12V is out. This is upsetting. There are other benefits as well. The size and power of a 48V winch motor is better. For the same power the electric motor is smaller. Or for the same physical size motor you get more power out of it.
It's too bad, Tesla could have converted these "bread crumbs" into hard cash, while "catering" to their existing client base.

If Tesla is as free as can be, then some smart Tesla employee could volunteer himself to make a mini-business case and create such a team and be the team leader all type of accessories for all sort of Tesla products.
Hi Luke, you will not believe this. The first 10.5 minutes of this presentation will make your day. It is wise that Tesla will be putting on an accessory team together. Yes, the 48V architecture was also stated as a motivator for the new team.

More seriously, looking at this, several things come to mind:

• a tool box; this is a standard accessory for work trucks, and the CT will need Tesla-level engineering to sort out fitment and attachment - may need rethinking though, since you couldn’t reach I to it from bedside

• a ‘Decked’-like bed drawer system in leu of a toolbox, including a second story of drawers that fit the slope under the tonneau. This 2-story config would also do a portion of the functionality of utility beds that will be otherwise unavailable for the uni-body design of the CT

• more than a bed-topper tent, I’d think more of an off-road, aero-optimized popup trailer for towing behind the CT would provide every bit as much room with fewer challenges to messing with the CT’s aero. And, with the right connections to the CT’s capabilities (onboard air, electricity, etc.) could have a lot of amazing features (auto-leveling, fridge, cooktop, etc.)

Some of the toolbox/bed drawer uses may be seen as redundant to the Frunk, but having these things in addition to a Frunk would be game-changing
Why is the tow hitch thing so long?

If you designed the vault cover perfectly to be solar, you could hope for around 420w of solar potential out of it. While that would be awesome for accessories and long term airport parking, thats not adding appreciable range in reasonable times, even under ideal conditions.

If you’re going to try to camp and charge your truck, you’ll need a big trailer or much better still, access to a remote charging array near where you will be. Lots of info about these should be dropping in 2024 and tons of deployments through the decade.

If you’re going to try to camp and charge your truck, you’ll need a big trailer or much better still, access to a remote charging array near where you will be. Lots of info about these should be dropping in 2024 and tons of deployments through the decade.
Any Tesla can be solar charged…with an inverter and the Mobile Connector. My hope for the CT is to have onboard electronics that will accept DC solar input directly.

I don't even need it to pop up. I want that height. Then we could add some more rows of seats! Lol

Maybe not camping, but 5ish miles a day would cover many of my weekdays and I'd have to plug in rarely

420w can’t be expected to make more than 2kWh per day in battery storage, especially considering the real world hurdles like less than ideal tilt, direction its parked relative to true solar south and of course shading and atmospheric conditions. the CT will be much heavier and less aerodynamic. Maybe that turns into 4-5 miles on the CT if cabin overheat, dog mode and sentry mode are left off.

Like I said IF a solar tonneau was an option (and I dont believe it will be) it would be great for someone that leaves it at the airport a lot or barely drives and when they do, its usually at night.

Where are you getting 420w from?

Stated Dimensions of the bed and extrapolating that into what the pinnacle of solar modules can do today (its my industry) plus im mixing in Elon’s affinity for 420 & 69 jokes
