Those are oil shadows. There was something on the metal before you used the acid. That's why they say to use soap beforehand.

If you have trouble keeping it damp, use a damp towel (or many towels, or a thin blanket or old sheets) laid over top to shield it from the sun and air.

This is how I take bugs off my motorcycle and helmet. Rehydrate the bugs so they'll come off without scratching.

Thank you for replying. I'm glad it wasn't me or CitriSurf. I was afraid to continue on but when I did the front it looked really nice. I was worried about plastics as well but no harm there. I'm going to try the damp towel going forward. Also mask off surroundings with tape.

I washed the panel with simply dawn dish soap to start. Going forward I will hit it with isopropyl alcohol diluted with water too. Misting with water worked well to keep it wet but the wet towel is good idea.

I started to figure out the stain was there before I started due the shape. Looks like a hand and forearm. Do you think the sun and air will eventually break it down or is there something I can/should do to try and remove those?

Yeah, the hard part is keeping it off the plastics. Annoying that they use cheap plastics that care about it, but it's the Model 3 of trucks so.

I don't think it'll do anything to the truck, but it won't go away on its own. The steel just has a layer of carbon chains or nickel aligned differently than the rest of the panel.

You might be able to hit it quickly with some more aggressive solvents and then do a touchup with Citrsurf instead of a whole panel. Advantage of the panel being so clean already.

Unfortunately, I think you're going to have to donate your CT to the next guy down the list. I think that's me.
Yesterday at one point you might of had me.

What's crazy is I didn't notice it prior to the CitriSurf treatment. I've stared at this truck a lot and would have noticed. The CitriSurf sure revealed it. I'm curious how it was there previously but not noticeable. I wonder if on its own will go back to uniform? Spitballing here, but think WD40 would help? Id like it to go away! ?

It was basically something oily or waxy (like WD-40) baked onto the surface. That's why the Bar Keeper's Friend instructions include light scrubbing.

That you've done the rest of the panel already means it'll be easy to do spot-cleaning to catch these up with if you do them within the week or month or so.

Ok I'm learning something here. Apologies for all the questions ahead of time. So if I'm listening and comprehending correctly, my course action that may help is to spot treat with the CitriSurf 2310. Should I extend the duration times? I have stayed away from barkeepers because I didn't want to alter the sheen or texture. I briefly tried that in a small area and it seemed to alter the sheen with minimal pressure so I stopped. I suspect if I used barkeepers I'd have to do the whole top panel if the frunk to get anywhere close to uniform texture and sheen.

What you want to do here is use lots of a sudsy soap, scrub, then rinse, use Citrisurf or Bar Keeper's Friend and a blue scrubby.

It's not duration you need now, it's agitation and foam.

Thank you Carissa! I got a game plan now. Between you and Claude AI I think I'll get this sorted. I'll update you. I'm gonna finish passivation because I think it needs it. It looks great other than the discoloration on this few spots.

Remember to post more shiny photos ^-^

Well, I used dish soap and blue scotch bright. Then back to CitriSurf. I'm not sure I made any progress.

I wonder if it is actually some sort of polish or wax? I looks like something that was wiped on.

You might need something aggressive, like acetone or high percentile alcohol. Have any everclear you could wet a towel with and lay on it before scrubbing?

Make sure it's dry between attempts.

I read somewhere to use denatured alcohol? I have 91% isopropyl. Thought about soaking a rag with isopropyl alcohol and laying on the spot. Hand sanitizer? Could baking soda or peroxide work? I really appreciate you all give me ideas. I have this added to upcoming service request.
