I received this invitation to use my Cybertruck to provide power back into the PG&E grid for remuneration. I had heard this was being tested in Texas but this is the first time I have seen that it is going to be tested in California.

Attached is the email (I have enrolled) and here is the PG&E link

if this spreads, we should have been allowed to get a tax credit for the batteries

Here in SoCal using SCE I got an invitation Not by email but by texts from Tesla Energy. First text was a little more than 2 weeks ago and the second one on Monday. I didn't enroll though.

I'm wondering how much it will cost to replace the energy that you put into the power grid. I don't think you're going to gain any money, I believe they pay you a fraction of the course to replace the electric, unless you're 100% solar

As a follow up to my original post I was selected as one of about 400 PowerShare Grid testers with PG&E. Yesterday Tesla came out and downgraded my newly installed 200A main breaker to 175A (I confirmed with my electrician that this would be fine with my home setup, but others should confirm this). The reason given from Tesla is that the 200A "may" cause a bus bar issue when connected back to the PG&E Grid. I kept my old 200A breaker should I ever need to switch back (if/when I exit out of the test program).

No one can tell me the specific details off the program - such as how much I will be paid for the feed back into PG&E or what happens if I need to use eBeast while it is feeding PG&E. As this is a trial I expect it to take several months before I learn much more at which time I will update this thread.

I think how these work is that they buy from you during peak times. Where I live its 2.3c KW/hr during super off peak, and 40c KW/hr during peak. If I could sell during peak time and buy super off peak it could be worth the stress on the battery.

In case you're wondering, the lower main breaker protects the panel when the truck is outputing and you have high panel utilization. 48A + 200A = 248A available. Uprated panels have ~225A bus bars. Going to the 175A main breaker limits available current to 223A.

Basic Powershare doesn't have this issue because the truck only outputs when the grid isn't there. This derating is common with solar and Powerwall installs, though in some cases you can address it by putting the generation at the far end of the panel away from the main breaker. That splits the current flow so no section of the bus bar carries the combined current.
