What if..Elon has a surprise Easter egg under that SS shell that gives it north of 348 range…similar to the concept of the semi where you do hwy driving on a small football sized motor, letting the masters disconnect until you need them? Crazy? Maybe, but it’s #Elongenius at work. Here’s what he announced at the semi unveil…

I’ve read that before. It’s super cool tech, but a 500-mile Tesla Semi costs $180,000. The CT is supposedly under $80K. I don’t think it’s going to be that complicated in order to keep production costs down. That’s probably one of the reasons they’ve scrapped the tailgate ramp as well.

Of course a tri-motor CT might come out later and cost around $95K, so then the decoupling motors might be feasible at that price point. Tesla will make it happen in some way, shape, or form. Their engineers are top notch.

I live in a ski town, and yet I remain entirely unconcerned.
But then again, one time in high school, i told a teacher to 'Go kiss a duck!'
So i'm basically a badass rogue element over here, there's no accounting for my renegade ways.

Or another wiper attached at the top on the passenger side that moves in tandem with the lower one. They’re staggered slightly and they both sweep down at about the same time (passenger-side trailing the driver-side). Both could be stored vertically to reduce drag.
The only issue I can see with that setup, is the passenger side wipers leading edge, since it’s facing downward in the stored position, could “catch” air, causing it to flap in the wind. It would have been interesting to sit in on the discussions about the windshield wiper though. Sometimes, the things that seem simple, end up being the most complicated. ?

So I have a couple concerns with the BAW…

At times in a very hard rainstorm or while getting splashed by a truck I’m passing, the windshield of my normal vehicle gets so much water on it that even at max speed, the wiper has a hard time keeping up. But my vehicle has relatively short wipers.

I know from science class that if the wiper rotation speed stays the same, the longer the wiper, the faster the far end tip will be traveling during the wipe action. Given the extreme length of the BAW, is it going to be wiping fast enough to keep the windshield relatively clear in extreme circumstances? Or if it wipes fast enough, will the far end tip be traveling fast enough to break the sound barrier?

And I notice that in order to keep such a long wiper strong enough that it has been built extra wide and tall. As a result, is police radar going to pick up the speed of the wiper as my travel velocity? I’d hate to be driving through a school zone taking my kid to drop off in a storm and have the automated cameras clock me at the speed of sound.

You have conveniently forgotten that there is no wiper cowl for snow to pack into. It all planar which will make clearing snow off in the morning really painless. And parking the wiper vertically, is brilliant!

I don’t think Elon wanted the BAW, but I guess they couldn’t come up with any better solution. The wiper fluid comes out of the wiper itself, like other Teslas. I’m sure it will be heated as well. Even just those features make it seem like a superior wiper to me.

Absolutely, the CT is like a slanted house roof from the side view, so if you put the wiper in horizontal position, it'll be the equivalent of rain ducts that collect snow, while a vertical wiper would let snow slide off the windshield and hood easily.

Fair point.. But gravity works best for you rather than against you, therefor a pile of snow built up on the screen at rest would fall when pushed... since there is no aforementioned cowl/trough for the snow to pack into which is the root cause of troublesome snow on the windshield..

just like the snow on the roof of your house.. just let it slide down the glass and the hood without interruption.. or do you try and push the snow up and over the peak?

there is no cowl.. Glass and Hood are practically coplanar with a slight rubber seal between them
