I've been tempted to buy the cybertent but I think my tent camping days are behind me. If one comes across Facebook marketplace cheap enough, I might grab it. Stupid question, every time I've been tent camping, the tent is always wet in the morning from dew/rain. Folding up a wet tent leads to mildew. Is it the same with the cybertent (and other roof top tents)?

I purchased a $200 Kampkeeper tent from the Amazons. Pictured here. Love it. Even one night of wind and rain, stayed completely dry. Worked so much better than I expected. (I guess having the CybertruckCo (or equivalent) bed cap might be required.)

I love this set up- link to the bed cap if possible. I’ll look up later if cannot. Cybertruck has killed my love for RV life. I love travel trailers but the darn CT range is too tough for me to tow. Hooking and I un-hooking ever 90 minutes is not gonna make it. And driving my beautiful Monster Post Office Rv below is simply prehistoric now and is being sold this weekend in Nashville.

The Tesla OEM Cybertent looks like a complicated mess. I'm 55 and don't have the stamina or patience to set that thing up, especially in the dark or bad weather. I'm holding out for the CyberLandr.

The Tesla OEM Cybertent looks like a complicated mess. I'm 55 and don't have the stamina or patience to set that thing up, especially in the dark or bad weather. I'm holding out for the CyberLandr.

There is a new, updated design for the CyberLandr, but there are a bunch of new patents that need to be finalized before any public reveal. The project is very much active, and will be totally worth the wait. We stay in continued contact with Lance King, the CEO of CyberLandr. It will be a game-changer for both the RV and Cybertruck market.

I have high hopes for the CyberLandr, and after speaking with Lance, I'm still confident that we will be seeing something from him later this year. I'm however starting to doubt if Tesla will still be producing Cybertrucks by the time CyberLandr comes to market, though. :unsure:

‘88? Whippersnapper! ‘87 over here! I’m thrilled that you’re on a first name basis with the folks at CyberLandr. I do hope that they’re able to bring it to market! I was so excited when I first saw the concept— which seems to me wasn’t that long after the cyber truck was announced they were Jonny on the spot!

Wouldn’t that just be our luck they’re able to bring it to market and there’s no new cybertrucks to sell it to. ☹

Such a cool concept though! That combination (ct + cl) fueled my enthusiasm all the way up until the final specs were announced and it became clear we weren’t going to get the 500 miles.

Obviously not a popular opinion based on what I’m reading, but I have the cybertent and love it. When I got it, it was because I had $2500 of imaginary money burning a hole in my pocket. I have since come to appreciate it a lot though. You really have to get up close and personal with it to see the genius of it.
Setup takes about 7 minutes total by myself or 15 minutes if my kids are helping. They are 4 and 7 .
Now…as for the why…I have actively resisted having a rack on the truck. This is about both aerodynamics and aesthetics for me. My car still churns out very good range numbers and I’m trying hard to keep it that way.
I have two parallel camping setups for different applications. Coody koala 7 is for organized campsites/national parks etc. this thing is big and roomy, easy to put up with a SUP pump (which doubles as a cybertent inflator) , responds really well to wave 2 air conditioning, well sealed and weather proof (but nonetheless on the ground) and tucks nicely under the area where the cybertent sits even leaving room for a generator and some portable solar next to it.
It has the distinct advantage of leaving the truck useable as a vehicle after camp is set up.
This is nice for sightseeing drives, runs into town, helping other campers and multiple other applications.
For setting up at a random dispersed site the cybertent is hands down the winner though. Putting my wife and young kids on the ground in the middle of pthe Arizona desert is impractical. In this situation we all prefer sleeping far off the ground attached to a big heavy truck (with sentry mode abilities I might add). The combination of the cybertent and back seat area provide plenty of nice climate controlled space.
It’s nice if it’s wet and /or muddy out. It offers some unique setup situations that are impractical for the ground tent like backing the truck right up to the edge of a lake and that sort of thing. Disadvantages are of course that the truck becomes a stationary foundation for your sleeping quarters, that you have to climb up and down and that the family becomes sort of segregated into cabin campers and tent campers although recently we’ve been entertaining the bunk bed concept.
the idea there is that you set up a vault mattress and have two people sleep in the vault with the head facing words the open tailgate when it’s time to go to bed. Still trying to find a good way to make the awning a complete coverage situation and enclose the entire thing.
I definitely see the advantages of something like a cap but I honestly just dislike the way that would make my truck look and feel. They are awesome and practical and likely not SUPER impactful in terms of aerodynamics,, but.not what I envision for my truck.

That sentence was an emotional roller coaster for me. First, the HORROR of adding 6.8 minutes to my set up time! Then ?!

Great work! Beyond that everybody has to do what works best for them if I little kids are preteens or whatever I might have a whole different attitude about this. It’s just me and the dogs and sometimes the wife. Daughter is 30 so she’s doing her own thing even if she comes with us.

Setting up camp for you might be a meditation and just a bit more quality time spent with the family doing something together and making memories.

I just wanna kick my shoes off and lay down as soon as possible. ?

I bought the Cybertent when my truck was brand new. Spent many nights in it, but the setup & teardown drove me nuts. I absolutely would NOT buy it again.

Two weeks ago I got the Mars Adventure Gear tent and it is AWESOME. Four latches and it pops open. Drove 3,000 miles with it from San Francisco, to LA, to Joshua Tree, then back to Michigan and averaged 526Wh/mi with the roof rack and tent. It does great on range! It's wicked thin!

If that thing had AC, and quick deploy, it could make charging much more enjoyable. I recently took an RV trip. Where those things shine, is the ease of laying down to rest during a short stop, also having a bathroom anywhere. Listening to the propane generator took some of that joy away.
I think the ultimate camper would be a Tesla Semi converted to straight truck, with FSD.

Giving it AC is not a problem. Especially since you can run this right from the bed. Not cheap, but effective.

Also, you can go the Breezer route or various solutions to route air from the truck through the windows into the tent.

Trucks don't fit in my garage with a topper/rack, due to headwall-mounted storage and my Model Y taking up the second bay. So I got a Cybertent. Big improvement over sleeping on the ground.

Yeah that's pretty close. With the rack and tent on the highway, I can usually count on 200mi of range (600Wh/mi). If I'm taking it easy at 65-70mph I can count on 245mi of range (500Wh/mi). If I'm on a rural highway doing 55-60mph for long distances, I can usually count on 275mi (435Wh/mi), but sometimes less. I saw efficiency in the higher 300s below 55mph.

Aerodynamic drag increases exponentially as you speed up, so you don't see much of a difference in range at lower speeds.

I did LA to Michigan in 3 days flat, with half a day spent stationary in Joshua Tree, so the tent and rack didn't drastically increase travel time. There was one 2022 Long Range Model Y that I saw several chargers in a row, so this rig keeps up with normal cars over long distances!
