TLDR: considering switching from Tesla Insurance due to dissatisfaction with its driver score system, which penalizes their preferred driving style (night driving, manual control over FSD). Looking for feedback on experiences with non-Tesla insurers (e.g., Progressive, GEICO, USAA) regarding accident claims, specifically using OEM parts and ease of setting up appointments at Tesla repair service centers versus other shops.

Tesla insurance is probably more optimum and more streamline when it comes to an accident. But I’m curious what other members in here have experienced going through non-Tesla insurance claims. Whether that be progressive GEICO USAA etc…

i’m asking because I’m thinking about switching from my current Tesla subscription for insurance with the whole driver profile and the score process cause I’m constantly driving at night and I enjoy driving the truck and it seems like if you drive it you enjoy it. It’s hard to keep your score in the 90s and I’m not a bad driver, but if I had this vehicle and I paid for it I want to drive it the way I wanna drive it yeah so I could enable FSD and probably get that. I guess 10% discount but honestly most of the time I just use active cruise control and I enjoy having my hand on the wheel enjoy driving the vehicle and steering. I just feel like just sitting there putting my hands in my lap is kind of boring to me. so let me know have you filed a claim with these other companies? If so, how did it go? I know there’s already a thread on quotes through other insurance companies, but I just want to get a thread going of actual accident claims being processed for the vehicle. Are they using OEM parts? Is it hard to set up an appointment with the Tesla repair service center going through these other carriers or do you have to go through a different kind of shop because I don’t know if the Tesla repair shop is only for Tesla insurance customers.

I was rear-ended; bumper, hitch, tailgate, etc.

My car was repaired by Tesla Collision in about 2-3 weeks. Hanover Insurance. $1700 a year. Straight forward claim process.

I like the way the insurance is almost gamified with Tesla. My score was 85 or so and I would drive everywhere. Now I use FSD most of the time and my score is 95. Sometimes I do drive, mostly at stop lights when I want to floor it or on some twisties near work, but this seems to affect the score less since I use FSD so much. Currently I am at about 75% driving on FSD. My wife is at 92% on her Y.

If you have the ability, USAA is generally the gold standard, but as with everything, your cost is going to be based on your specific risk factors and history.

Insurance is a legal racket. The number one goal of an insurer is to never pay out a claim; and when they are forced to, they will use every single tactic to delay or deny.

I'm fed up up I have had Tesla Insurance for over a year now, living in Texas there are lots of roads. When I first began using Autopilot with navigation I got safety scores of 98/97. When they began offering the discount I decided to use FSD all the time.

Nowy safety scores are 93 to 95. With the discount it's 30% off but still 40% to 50% more than when I was driving manually using AP. The FSD doesn't do well in Texas traffic, continually switching lanes and front-dooring vehicles.

I don't know why Tesla just doesn't ignore the safety score when FSD is active, but it's a worse driver than I am, statistically.

Also once I took my M3 to get the brakes checked because they were making noise and the technician was pressing them hard to test, tell me why I was penalized for that?

I've had no problems with Progressive. It was the cheaper of the options I found and I've had them for years with a motorcycle.
I've only had a 2mph fender bender and the truck didn't get any damage. No problems.

Yeah I’m under progressive with my motorcycle right now. I’m hoping I see more post in here. I’m really looking for experiences with a claim that was not in house with Tesla insurance.
Sure another company might be cheaper but how do they handle the loaner and the repair shop?
Can you ensure all parts are oem and not a cheaper alternative? And what was turn around time.
If you use let’s say Usaa or progressive is it like normal car insurance and you get a rental car That’s limited by a dollar amount? Or do you get a loaner from a Tesla collision center.
Is Tesla collision loaners only for Tesla insurance holders?

I had USAA which goes through progressive. When going directly with USAA they have limitations on how much you can tweak the policy(higher deductibles). Going directly with progressive saved money b/c I could set a higher deductible that USAA didn’t offer.
