Just got a quote for power share install, $7-8k!!!! This is due to a detached garage with currently a 50amp subpanel. The installer wants to run 100amp capable wire from my main panel to the universal connector. There us a huge cost associated with this.

With all of Tesla's wall connectors you can change the charge rate to different amp ratings, 48, 40, 32, etc. the question is can you or does this also change the amp rating going in the other direction back to the gateway from the truck. This way I can leave the 50amp wire as is and not have that cost. I'm okay losing a couple of circuits by having the lower setting. We have only lost power 1 time for about 30 min in the 12 years we have been in this house. $8k is way too much for the just in case situation. I just don't want lose $2k worth of equipment.

I guess another question would be has anyone had luck in getting the universal connector from Tesla but getting the lame $700ish credit for the gateway?

If I remember, the DC from the vehicle to the house is 11.5 kW/48 amp. Your 100 amp garage panel can handle that on a 60 A breaker. Just set the AC charging to 48 A, which is plenty since it will charge from zero to full in less than 11 hours and, in normal use, you would only need a few hours.

You can't change how much the house is pulling. But you can limit the load by only putting certain breakers on the Powershare.

What are you going to do when you get your second EV? Is 100A worth it?

Nah, this is my 5th Tesla, I've had 2 since 2018. 50 amps split between 2 cars is plenty, 19 each, leaves two left over for other garage things.

The new $2500 credit fixes my issue anyway.
