I have existing Tesla solar with Powerwalls with a backup gateway (that's installed behind the meter for the whole home backup, not the explicit panel like gateway). I have also recently installed Universal Wall Connector that's powershare compatible. When I try to set up powershare in Tesla app, it asks to connect to "gateway " WiFi - in my system there's no explicit gateway to connect to, so I attempted to connect to the power wall ( that's the only component with WiFi in my system) and the get the "system already registered" message and it stops there.

Anyone cracked the setup for powershare with existing Powerwalls and backup gateway?

From the Tesla website: Powershare with existing Powerwall

For Customers with Powerwall
If your home is equipped with Powerwall and home charging, you do not require any additional equipment. All Powerwall variants are compatible with Powershare Home Backup.

The home charging unit can be any product, but we strongly recommend it’s connected to a 240V circuit. Our preferred solution is the Wall Connector or Universal Wall Connector. Any generation of Wall Connector is compatible with Home Backup if using Powerwall. The home charging system must be backed up by the Powerwall system to enable Home Backup.

Also the software for Powershare functionality has not yet been released so that may explain the errors you are seeing. ETA for the software has been advertised to be this June.

I was wondering this might be the case. Thanks for the reference!

Agreed, your system is already to go when software is ready. Did you fill out the survey for Power share? My guess is when you say that you have powerwall and wall connector, they will answer your question. Probably say well send you the $700 ship voucher or super charging. Let us know what they say.

Yes in your system(with backup switch), the power wall is the brain I believe. When I was reading Tesla PW manual it said if gateway was used with a powerwall, the gateway brains are disabled.
