Orders for the 'normal' all wheel drive version of Cybertruck started in Canada about 2 weeks ago.

At the same time, Tesla dropped the price for Foundation models to clear them out. For example, a Foundation edition is about $3,000 less than a 'normal' version if you add all the same accessories... plus the Foundation edition comes with the option for a free wrap (estimated value of $4,000). So, it is tempting to dump my 'normal' order and purchase an inventory Foundation.

From my very limited knowledge, I speculate the Foundation editions in Canada have a VIN around 45,000 versus a 'normal' version with a VIN around 66,000.

VIN 45,000 is hopefully high enough that Tesla made some fixes, but would a VIN 66,000 Cybertruck be noticeably more reliable?
(eg. Tonneau cover, heater noise, wipers, windshield cracking, etc...)

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

I would hold off on a purchase. 2024 CT deals should get even sweeter in March as we approach the end of Q1.

That is my strategy, but I may rule out a Foundation (2024) completely if it is less reliable than a 2025 non-Foundation.

I’ve had mine for almost a year / 18,000 miles driven. Off-road, rain, snow, heat, cold.

No issues with reliability - various small things like a rattle or something like that (third Tesla, used to it), but I don’t think it would be too big of a difference. Plus you get all the added things, and the wrap as you mentioned.

The higher the VIN # the fewer the problems is pretty much true for all Teslas and at this point especially the Cybertruck. Likely going to be some steep discounts coming at the end of the quarter, I would get the non-foundation and I would wait a couple more months.

I had a Foundation AWD (VIN2154) and now have a (VIN60690) 2025 Beast—the quality is SIGNIFICANTLY different. It’s important to get a model past the December 2024 production change in my opinion. Pay extra and get a brand new 2025.

The problem with the Foundation is still the price for me as the options with it are not what I want so not actually cheaper then a regular truck.

White interior $3000
Cyber Wheels $5000
Premium accessories around $800
Lifetime connectivity $2000 over 10yrs
Wrap $4000

I only want the lifetime connectivity and can get the accessories myself for the same or cheaper. Don’t need a wrap, or white strip for $3000.

Cyber wheels for $5000 but you don’t get the standard wheels also. What a rip off, you can just buy a new set of off-road or winter tires and have two sets.

With all that said I want the truck now and almost bought the foundation a few times. But for me I’d pay $8000 more ($12,000 if you include the wrap) for the foundation for an older version that could have more kinks in the build quality.

Free lifetime supercharging and I would likely change my mind.

Exact same situation here.

I have had free supercharging since 2014 in three vehicles. I thought Supercharging was dead and gone. So, I am surprised it made a comeback in US Cybertrucks (briefly), and then Model S and Model X in general (although that's with an $8,000 CAD price increase).

I just got delivery notification for my 'basic' Cybertruck for March 6th. I have my fingers crossed that Tesla will add free supercharging on remaining Foundation models in the next weeks. If that happens, I will drop my basic Cybertruck and pick an inventory Foundation.

I got the same date for Etobicoke On.
I’d do the that’s also, as I plan to keep the truck.

That said, you could pay me to charge and I still wouldn’t get a Foundation, based on past experience. Plus, the biggest benefit of Tesla ownership is home charging for me. My foundation was in service 12 times during the 11 months I had it.

Friend with a Foundation has less than 4k miles on his and has been in service more than 5x. Other friend has later vin and almost 25k miles and not one service appointment. They have definitely improved build quality.

Could you elaborate on the "production change" that happened in December?
I tried a Google search and didn't get any useful info.

I searched the archive of Tesla news. Free supercharging was added to USA Cybertrucks on December 27th (a mere 4-days before end of sales quarter).

Similar timing in Canada for this quarter would mean an announcement on March 27th. That would be well past the deadline to take delivery of my 'normal' Cybertruck.

Yikes... here's hoping that announce earlier than that.

I can’t recall specifically where on the Tesla site that I read about it, however, all service release notes can be found here: https://service.tesla.com/docs/Cybe...UID-58B67760-D8F5-4178-BA12-93ACE9831C0F.html

You can see that they are pretty extensively improving processes and even changing out parts being used to build the truck.

My new truck has the hardened plastic mirrors, as well as a body that has no squeaks or rattles. When I turn all the way left or right, I’m not met with any “rubbing” of the rear-wheel-steer tires. Overall road noise is reduced. My brother and wife think that the doors “feel lighter”.
