Public REACTIONS to Your Cybertruck (and Your Reaction)? [Admin Warning: NO POLITICS]

I’ve been loving my Cybertruck since I got it a few months back. I braced myself for some hate, knowing it’s a bold vehicle tied to a polarizing figure. Honestly, I was ready for it—thought I’d get some eye-rolls or snarky comments. But aside from an old lady calling my truck a trash can (which I laughed off), it’s been smooth sailing… until recently.

Today, my wife was driving our Cybertruck with our young kids in the back seat. At an intersection, some biker locked eyes with her and flipped her off—right in front of our kids. A week ago, another driver did something similar. Unprovoked, no reason, just pure hostility. What kind of coward targets a woman with young kids over a truck? It’s beyond frustrating—it’s infuriating.

I get that some folks hate the Cybertruck because of Elon Musk’s politics, and they think they’re taking some moral stand. But flipping off a family? That’s their high ground? It’s pathetic.

I’m trying not to let this get under my skin, but when it’s my family, the protective side kicks in hard. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of nonsense? How do you shake it off and not let it ruin the Cybertruck experience? I’m all ears for advice, because I want to keep enjoying this beast without these clowns getting in my head.

I was just thinking about this recently. I have not had a single hate or evil look in ~ a month. I was at a Renaissance Festival in Nashville and parked at the very front where thousands walked by. No hate (and trust me, there are a LOT of blue hairs there). I went to Smokey Ntnl Park, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and only got love and thumbs up. It has certainly died down in my areas over the past month. Hope it stays this way!

I carry too, but brandishing will put you behind bars in most states. It should never come out unless you plan to use it.

The best approach is either to ignore or add some humor. A guy driving in the lane beside my wife and kids once exposed his hard member - her reaction was to wiggle her hand in the universal sign of “meh”, and then held two fingers an inch apart. Everyone in the family still laughs about the interchange and the guy got humiliated. Yes, he probably could have been charged and convicted of something, but life is too short to give these people any of our valuable heartbeats and breath.

I had this lady in a Subaru tailgating me for 20 miles this last Saturday and holding up her middle finger and waving it at me the entire time. She would hug the left line so whenever I looked in the side mirror she could see me and she would wave and waggle her finger even more. Saved the dashcam footage and thought about posting it. Some people are just miserable.

Send the footage to the police if you got her license plate number.

bonus points for sending it to all major insurance companies.

Living near Seattle there's no end to deranged people (usually in Subarus) who do their best German dictator impression when they see my truck. Many CT drivers in this area are well-behaved Asian/Indian women driving their kids to daycare. I leave it to them to turn the other cheek, so that I can take on a more active response.

My approach now is to openly film them and enthusiastically encourage them to freak out as much as possible, then post it online. If I'm parked I will also let the truck do the talking (read: farting) for me while maintaining eye contact and continuing to film. I also have bear spray and other deterrents in case things really get out of hand, which has not happened yet. These people are pretty much never alpha male manly types.

I suspect you are exaggerating when you say you post the videos online (link or it never happened) but if true you must think you’re going to live forever and therefore have unlimited time.

I would make sure your wife knows she's in a 6000 pound weapon encased in stainless steel with armor glass. My wife is a better person that i am and has the ability to ignore it. People on motorcycles really shouldn't be picking fights with people in trucks. Might end up wearing coffee.

I have a tiktok channel but as a matter of principle (security through obscurity) I don't crosslink my social media accounts.

This takes little extra time on my part. I'm already on the road going from point A to point B and filming comes for "free". Posting takes less than a minute.

As for the rent-free part, you may have a point, but I also derive considerable satisfaction from doing this.

I mostly ignore them—until their behavior crosses a line. I'm not someone who seeks out conflict, but I won’t hesitate when the situation demands action. I despise bullying and intimidation to my core; having experienced it firsthand, I have zero tolerance for these cowards. They’re emotionally stunted, perpetually trapped in their adolescent mindsets, easily manipulated by whatever ideology or echo chamber they cling to. Bullies crumble when confronted. When I call them out directly, they experience a complete "break in the matrix"—their facade collapses the moment they’re exposed. Even those I choose to ignore feel the intensity of my gaze. Situational awareness is everything: never look away. Lock eyes until you see their fear reflected back, and let them know without words that their cowardice has been recognized.
