I pre-ordered mine in August of 2023 and already got an invite so this lines up. Honestly I wasn't expecting one until late 2025 at the earliest.

Compensate ? Lol
Why do more and more folks expect a handout when they aren't exact position in life as the other person?
Bread lines coming soon. She got more bread than me. We are all supposed to get the same amount of bread.

Desperate?
Yes. Tesla is desperate to recapture as much money as they can from the development of the Cybertruck as well as the 4680 cells, and that is why they are trying to make the Foundation Series sound rare, exclusive, etc. There has been a sharp, sharp drop in interest and even pricing in the Foundation Series. There was more sustained hype over the Model 3 when it first came out. This is all objectively verifiable.

Desperate? As for premium accessories, there's no mystery if you look.
Tesla has listed the "premium accessories" that come with the FS, but Tesla has not announced what accessories will be included with *all* CTs-- including the $80,000 model. Tesla has done this before with other first editions. Tesla is engaging in a little bit of wordplay here because if certain accessories come with all the models, they can really hardly be called premium or exclusive.

This happened to me too. I cancelled my reservation and even my "non-refundable" deposit, and got both back.

But after sitting in and later renting a Cybertruck and being thoroughly impressed, I placed another $250 deposit and then got another Foundation Series (FS) invite almost immediately. Tesla must be getting desperate to offload the FS CTs to the last few people who want to be "first."

I'm really struggling right now trying to decide if I'll wait and see what the $80,000 CT model comes with, or pull the trigger on the $100,000 FS.

The real mystery right now is what features or options the first $80,000 CT models will have or require you to purchase. Note that what's listed for the $80,000 CT doesn't include any mention of power outlets. Tesla might pull a Ford and make those a every expensive option.

Foundation Series Options List:
  • 318 mi. range (Est.)
  • 4.1 sec. 0-60 mph
  • 112 mph top speed
  • 600 horsepower
  • 7,435 lb-ft torque
  • 11,000 lbs. towing capacity
  • "Premium Accessories" (whatever the hell that means)
  • Powershare Home Backup
  • Powershare Mobile Connector
  • Full Self-Driving Capability
  • Lifetime Premium Connectivity

$80,000 Series Options List:
  • 340 mi. range (EST.)
  • 4.1 sec. 0-60 mph
  • 112 mph top speed
  • 600 horsepower
  • 7,435 LB-FT torque
  • 11,000 lbs. towing Capacity
It's likely that whatever algorithm they use that got you the first invite also triggered the second.

A couple of weeks ago (July 17) on a whim I reserved a CT (after cancelling my previous one). I figured we would re-visit next year or so. This afternoon I got an invite to order the Foundation Series for delivery in next month!

So I can confirm that Tesla is now at the very end of the reservation list and inviting pretty much anyone who puts down $250 to buy an FS CT. On the positive side, that means opening orders for the regular trim cannot be more than a few weeks away.

I need you on the road so people get numb to them. Looking forward to the end of FS!
My problem isn't on the road, it's the random people who stop at my house, who may not even live in my neiggborhood, and the kid who rang my doorbell asking for a ride.

There is no "looking" to be done. You don't know what "premium accessories" means anymore than the employees at Tesla, because not only have they not announced what those accessories will be, but they likely might change what those accessories will be. Again, Tesla has done this before with other first editions.
Hahaha that's like saying Apple is desperate and so it released a new phone.

Since you couldn't look:

  • Laser-etched Foundation Series badges and cabin graphics
  • Off-Road Light Bar*
  • Powershare Home Backup capability
  • Powershare Mobile Connector
  • Powershare Hardware Tesla Shop voucher
  • Full Self-Driving capability
  • 3D All-Weather Interior Liners
  • Gear Locker Dividers
  • Glass Roof Sunshade
  • D-Rings
  • L-Track Hooks
  • L-Track Bottle Opener
  • Center Console Tray

Your defensive laughter is actually appropriate. ?

Yes, Apple iPhone sales are indeed down, because the premium edge that Apple had just a few years ago is now perceived by consumers to be lost. There are very few "must have" features that are causing people to buy the latest version of the iPhone at a premium expense.

As for Tesla, the number of CT reservations has been touted by Tesla for years at over two million.

The number of CTs can be roughly calculated by recall numbers which must be disclosed by law. The number is estimated to be 11,688 delivered as of June/July.

The math is clear: The overwhelming majority of reservation holders are waiting for the $79,999 CT-- eligible for the $7,500 tax credit (of course not available to you Canadians).

Tesla is struggling to sell FS CTs right now at the current price point and they are desperate for the $20,000 premium which will disappear before the end of 2024.

To be clear, none of this means Tesla is desperate to sell CTs. Just the FS models at the $100,00 price point. But that's one of the reasons that Tesla's working on trying to develop a dry cathode version of the current battery cells in the FS. They're going to need to figure out a way to squeeze more money out of each CT unit.

It’s only a $2k expedited delivery tax. You will eventually find yourself buying (generally) all the accessories that were included with FS. Original reservation holders locked in FSD at $7k. MSRP went up $7k, from $73k to $80k. So the initial $80k I signed up for in 2019 ($73k+$7k), all other things remaining constant, went up to $87k. Now we’re at a $13k delta. Accessories, powershare equipment or voucher, subscriptions, etc…sum to $11k-ish.

And trust me, you will buy the roof sun shade, you will buy the L-Track hooks, you will buy the center console organizer, you will buy mobile powershare connector, you will buy you will buy you will buy….Telsa Shop or Alibaba…you will buy.

I’m not starting an argument in any way shape or form, just trying to clear the air. I sat on my FS invite email in March for 8 days. Something I never thought I would do. But after the pricing analysis on everything that was included, I justified the 6-8 week expedited delivery fee over waiting god knows how much longer. The first 4.5 years were long enough.

So if it’s $80k not a cent more that youre after, I dont think you’ll find it unless FSD is not in your future.
You are spot on. Also i really dont think Tesla is going to sell a CT that looks like a FS CT. The tires will be different and maybe the wheels. Wont get the floor mats unless you pay for them. And the 80 does not factor in any increase in materials. In the end you will pay 90+ for a stripped down CT. It's all about affordability. You can always wait until 2026 when the single motor comes out.
