I recently came back from a trip from Kansas City to Cincinnati and back in the CT.
Biggest issues: While in FSD, there were many instances when the truck:
A. Didn't recognize the speed limit signs and didn't adjust speed accordingly
B. Read the speed limit minimum as the new maximum, then slowing from the current 70+mph to 45 mph while cruising in the left lane
C. Phantom speed limit adjustments from 70 mph to 45 or 55 mph when no signs were present, and at times, 10 seconds later it would flip back to 70 mph.
I don't know if the truck is relying on "bad" map data re: speed limits, but there was the potential for safety issues. Also, its ability to read posted speed limit signs have been very hit and miss. These phenomena have not been limited to this trip of mine, but rather to others when driving between cities on the interstate.
The good news: in general, the FSD is a great tool to minimize fatigue of gripping the wheel for long drives. Generally it does well. I hope the engineers are able to fix the above issues. Lastly, the range really impressed me! I was expecting to stop many times. I think the weather was optimal for EV driving (50-70s F). and each way the truck eliminated planned stops due to efficiencies, and while approaching each supercharger recommended, the expected arrival charge continued to rise due to FSD and my driving. Each way on the 500+ mile journey, I started with 100% charge. And each way I only needed to stop twice. The stops allowed for a meal, restroom breaks, a nice walk to stretch the legs, etc.
Overall, I've had the truck for over a year, but this is the longest trip I've taken and wanted to share my impressions. The battery was great! The ride was smooth! And I think with continued software fixes it'll approach perfection.
