Seems many are planning to run these at the slightly smaller275 size on factory wheels, anyone done it yet? It’s getting cold, curious of feedback for those that have. This is the route I am considering.

I reluctantly went with the duratracs but first snow or ice and I dont like them, I will switch over to blizzaks and run two sets of wheels. (blizzak winter season and duratracs other 3 seasons)

Also if you put the smaller tires on, please share photos!

For those that have only tried Blizzaks and are not familiar with Nokian winter tires.. consider that the Nokians are designed in Finland. Back when I lived in Pennsylvania with routine driving to Ohio with lake effect snow near Cleveland and back to Pittsburgh then up to Massachusetts with rained-over ice in a Honda Accord 4 cylinder FWD I had a stong preference for the Nokians over the Blizzaks if staying on the road and in your lane with stopping traction is your goal in the absence of chains. Switching from Blizzaks to Nokians (which was on the recommendation of a tire shop way back when I had no idea what that company was about) made a world of difference for me but YMMV.

Just my 2 cents, FWIW.

Cheers

Thanks for the insight.
I’ve had great experience with Nokian on three different vehicles, including a G wagon, a Lexus GX 460, and a Tesla model three. I’ve also run Michelin X ice, which is not an option for us. The Michelin is better for a higher miles and longer commute the Nokian are far better as it comes to traction. Perelli is the worst snow tire I’ve ever had.

I’ve only heard good things about Blizzak and leaning to try them.

Comparing the stats, they are a little bit heavier and have a slightly higher speed rating. Slate initial tread, depth difference. Not sure if that means anything.

Agree Pirellis are overpriced junk. The only set of tires I ever replaced on my MS after 200 mi were Pirelli brand and I will never buy them again as I thought they were straight up unsafe and unfit for road use. Others seem to like them but their lack of traction on dry mountain roads scared the living sh!t out of me (they were not winter tires) with my driving style, which I would qualify as politely aggressive.

Cheers

I have them off gassing in the yard right now. They will go with some all terrain rims from eBay.

I might get them mounted this weekend in honor of the snow (not even the first snowfall of the season here). But I probably won't mount them for a couple more weeks given that it's still getting up into the 50s for a high with a low in the 20s.

I was thinking of putting the LT3s on my CT once i get it as a spare set of the T Sportline 20” cybersteelie TCS for winter use when I go on ski trips and the like as I rarely have use for true winter tires in the Silicon Valley area but I don’t think I would be confident in winter driving conditions without Nokians on my vehicle after they saved my @$$ back in the day on several occasions when I used to drive in Northeast US winters.

I’m quite eager to hear what those trying them out on the CT/CB for snowy (and especially icy) conditions think after spending some time with them on the truck in conditions where dedicated snow tires really matter, and also when you think they would still need chains given the vehicle config.

cheers and safe driving all!

By All terrain rims from eBay are you just say you have all season core wheels and are gonna buy second hand the cyber wheels to throw these Nokians on? Wanted to confirm as that was literally the same plan I had for the CT if and when it ever arrives.

I have the OEM all terrain wheels, I got a 2nd set of rims from eBay that are also the all terrain rims. The were $1,500 with shipping and I just liked the look so I went with them. I need to get someone in town to mount and balance the Nokian tires to them sometimes this week. We just got a couple inches of snow this morning.

I wanted to get the rims before the FS ended. I figured since almost everyone had those rims the secondary market would be cheaper before it was an added cost to buy them.

The Nokian LT3s were $1300 and the TPMS were $400, which brings the total to $3,200, just a bit more than the official winter tires, but with actual winter tire compound. Completely worth it in my mind since I live high in the Colorado mountains in a subarctic climate, much like Siberia. In the dead of winter we'll go weeks without it getting above freezing and the average snow fall is 13 feet a year.

We'll be getting snow until late may/early June. Then during the brief summer I like to take the truck out on the trails so I'll be rocking the OEM all-terrains then.

I have thought about getting a set of the core wheels for road trips but I'll probably just put on the all-terrains. The wheels are big and I am not sure if I want to store 2 sets. I still might do that but I have some time to consider it.
