I’d hazard a guess confirmation bias is what they look for.

Statistics say they are, because some portion of them do it out of ignorance rather than malice.

It doesn’t need to be lethal just uncomfortable like an electric fence.
#3 is incorrect. It is to be pounded into the aggressor, not the pavement. Reference specific training materials for details, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
