I think the size thing is a false narrative. These are gonna sell like hotcakes. I’m buying one myself. A lot of people want a simple two-door car.

You can’t believe that this is going to fail and the Robotaxi is going to succeed for the exact same reasons. Tesla is convinced that the vast majority of trips in the US are only with two people if that’s true, an inexpensive two seater starter vehicle should be a hit whether it drives itself or not. Especially since this one has a functional bed and the ability to add two more seat seats later.

Leaked price is $24.999. If they can actually manufacture them and the quality is north of Yugo level, they will sell millions.
The small cheap pickup of the past had the beauty of not having to baby it - throw crap in the back for helping to move friends. Got a party, toss a keg in the back. Need to haul some yard trash, don't care.

If they can keep the cost at around 25k, it's going to sell - even at 150mile range. And hopefully the insurance on these is fairly cheap.

I just reserved one - it will be for my parents. They don't have to worry about oil changes, maintenance and so on. Going to get the SUV version for them. Daily drive is under 5 miles for them - to wallyworld and back.

I reserved a Blank Slate, yesterday, for my wife to use with her WhatsApp (e-commerce) business. It’s going to be great and will literally take a load (or two) off of LEO.

S,3,Y,CT,CT(holding pattern) Slate is back on
At that price it could be a cheap farm truck.
Would put it more in the world of a John Deere Gator.

Farm truck would be a stretch for the farmers that I know that have farm trucks. A bit small. A bit too weak. Can't tow shit. No stump ripping in its future either.

Go to town 50 miles away to get something is just right. Farm truck would cost a bundle to go get something small. Slate pennies.

This thread is a cross post to get people over at the other forum. Which I belong. I will have probably one of the first 100 off the line.

Not everybody's cup of tea. My personal use will be this is the guest truck. Guests, help get to drive it. Find a lot of other cars out there or trucks for that price point. Buy three of them. Let me know what you end up at price wise. Not cheap.

Well, it looks like a 10k truck, not 27k.
It's a good thing that as CT owners we have never heard something like that before. Oh wait....

To me the main things that make the slate compelling are the price, EV factor and Made in USA.

Agree about the value proposition for a farm run-about vehicle. Just as you said, I recall a year ago pricing out the electric RANGER XP Kinetic. Now listed on their website as "2024" model year and $40k+ with doors/windows suitable for winter use. Back when there was a $7500 federal tax credit, the 200-ish mile range Ford was less expensive. Definitely a market for the Slate-- business and college campuses, farms, short term rental properties...

Two big questions have not been answered:

-Who is handling deliveries?
-Who will perform warranty repairs and service the vehicle?

I read that Carvana was being considered as a partner. They could also handle customer trade in's.

I’m thinking about one for my property vs importing a Chinese EV truck.

I don’t need it to be street legal and would non-op it after the first year. But, then I’m paying for the airbags and various safety features that I don’t need vs the Chinese EV. OTOH, I’d hope the build quality on the Slate is way better, haha!!

Final blank slate price confirmed at 25k 👍

But the Suv is 30k, and slantback is 2k more. 😟

Estimated range is now 205 miles, up from 150. However, there is no longer an option for a larger extended-range battery.
