You are my hero. You probably just summarized an entire afternoon of research.

Thank you,
No worries glad I could help.

It's sometimes time consuming to filter through all the reposting of information titbits, I'm hoping we get some confirmation from EM from his spaces talk so we know exactly what happened.

All that have not watched "The Expanse" need to stream all 6 seasons immediately.
Looks interesting. I just tried to search for it on Neflix and can't find it.

It's obviously difficult to serve a warrant to a Martian, but Elon and SpaceX will continue to be Earth-bound indefinitely. Could make for some interesting legal theatre...

Elon will live forever...

A few years ago at a space-themed party in Austin, I got to hear Cas Anvar recount how he had personally lobbied Jeff Bezos to save "The Expanse" from SyFy's dumpster.

Sadly, I was also going to meet Buzz Aldrin (!!?!) but he failed to appear for health reasons. Instead, we listened to Cas explain the realism of "The Expanse" with respect to Newtonian physics and orbital mechanics. woo hoo

Multiple high-res angles of the launch (including one hit by concrete and glitched). You can see the moment the dust changes as the concrete breaks.

Also, you can see how it looks to have watched it live, and how noisy it truly was five miles away.

Amazing to me how it all held together even after becoming unstable. The strength of the connection and the hull of the booster as well as Starship must have been under huge aerodynamic load as if twisted and looped.

And that's what ultimately destroyed it as the tanks were purged of pressure. The last frame of video that SpaceX has from the winglet camera shows the booster tank folding as the rocket crumples. from the aerodynamic load from the Starship mated atop it.

The Expanse is a pretty good show, but you need to make it through the first season, because after the first two episodes it's a bit of a slow burn to get all the story elements in place. It all picks up in season 2.

It's a mostly realistic show with a dollop of extra spice, on top of all the solar system politics. An enjoyable what if. I quite liked the ships, especially the Mars Stealth ones, and how they had gravity because they would accelerate at 1g to the middle of the trip and then decelerate at 1g from there to slow down before docking.

Mars is essentially a scientist refuge with cool tech and terraforming Mars, earth is living behind a coastal wall because of global warming, and the asteroids are home of the mining working class called belters that are fighting for independence. There's also piracy, murder cases with detectives, terrorism, smuggling, war of course, the usual character relationship drama, and even a space edition of Noahs ark. The other bits I won't give away. 😉

Yeah, I was thinking about warning about the first season. The first season has important bits, but you might want to skip to Season 2 after the first episode and watch Season 1 later.

I dunno if I'd skip it entirely though, there's important story elements that recaps won't be able to cover in detail. You just have to plod through it.

I've watched it twice, once by myself up until S3 and then started again watching it with my boys. They are pretty picky viewers but once we hit S2 they were all in.

I suppose now that we have lowered expectations we'll get feedback that the first season wasn't that bad!

It’s probably been posted, but did you see how the launch obliterated the launch tower foundation. It completely took out a grade beam that must have been 20’ wide 30’ deep and 100’ long. That’s nuts.

I am sure the structural engineering manual doesn’t deal much with vast quantities of rocket fuel hitting the structure at 3000 meters per second. I am surprised that they failed to account for that. Looks like at least $2M in damage to the tower.
I have not read the entire thread yet, but one other issue besides burning rocket fuel is the sound pressure waves. That amount of power produces a force as destructive as the fuel.
