Now that I have FSD, I have the luxury to “quickly” check what other drivers are doing, especially during bumper-to-bumper traffic. I was expecting probably one out of 5 drivers might be distracted. It’s INSANE how many people are distracted while driving - checking phones, doing makeup, eating burgers, sorting bills, reading books (seriously! there is something called audio book, fellas!). I have been guilty as well, but I’m shocked to see how common this is.

Almost 80% of the drivers are distracted, especially during congested traffic!!

If anybody from Tesla is active on this forum - please pass on the idea - use Tesla cameras to figure out distracted drivers around you. At the end of the day, I would like my CT to say “X% of drivers were distracted around you today/all time”. Of course the data won’t be perfect, as the cameras might not be highly accurate, but this is the closest we have on the road to have AI detect distracted drivers. Law enforcement cameras do the same, but they work only at certain intersections.

So many accidents on road cause delays and fatalities. There is no way to know how many distracted drivers are there unless an accident happens, but that’s too late. With Teslas powerful cameras, we might be able to get this without violating any privacy issues for non-Tesla drivers.

Why we need this?
- Owners could avoid some places where statistically drivers are highly distracted
- The data can be shared with cops to do more policing
- The data can be used by Insurance companies to adjust the pricing. If people realize their distracted driving behavior is going to impact monthly payment, they might start paying more attention
- Push law makers to embrace FSD sooner than later

Before someone says I’m also distracted for checking out these other distracted drivers, I have mastered the art of turning my head very quickly to avoid FSD strike. Trust me! ?

Agree for the most part, other than reporting data to LE, that starts down a slippery slope. Next people will be asking for Tesla to report any vehicles that are speeding and you get emailed a ticket.

Brilliant! Lets take it 1 step further.
  1. Capture their license plates.
  2. Run their credit scores.
  3. Use face ID to determine if they are cheating on their spouses.
  4. Broadcast you are doing this to the world.
  5. People driving Teslas will forever enjoy traffic free highways as others move to the shoulder when they see a Tesla behind them.

I think FSD should analyze the other drivers for the purpose of determining their risk level
Brilliant! You pretty much summarized my entire post in one sentence. FSD should do risk assessment and also inform me of the risk level to take certain routes. This data should also be shared publicly. There is no personal data collected.

lol! There is no personal data collected. Do you say the same when traffic cameras catch you if you jump the signal and get photographed? That’s PII data as you get a ticket. This is not even PII data. The data correlation is done locally and discarded. AI will analyze body/hand movement and put a risk level. No PII data is stored and linked to the driver or the vehicle.

Looking at your phone and driving is illegal in several states now. The only thing Tesla would add is to use their camera infrastructure to publicly report risk level on certain routes, similar to traffic congestion. It’ll help their FSD; it’ll help Tesla owners; it’ll help law makers to embrace FSD soon, and it’ll also help cops do more policing.
