That IS interesting. I wonder why Tesla thinks there is no financial incentive for them to lease a M3 “standard” version. Could this possibly be seen as having an Osborn-effect vis-a-vis the Robotaxi?

Toyota is infamous for leasing their cheapest vehicles and they make decent revenue from it, or there wouldn’t be that stupid “Toyota Leasathon” thing every single year.

Maybe they just don’t have enough data how it depreciates yet and afraid to lose money. In the aftermarket small upgrades like “leather” and premium sound don’t cost as much and these could end up taking a pretty good hit competing with used Y’s and 3’s

The new MY/3 have disabled Autopilot's Autosteer as well. It's TACC or buy FSD, same as the CT. The difference is that the 3/Y have the ability to use Autosteer.

Probably, but it's an odd move for a vehicle losing demand for 3 straight years to introduce a stripped version for more money just 7 days ago.

It just seems like a misstep by Tesla. Even some of the decisions like putting cloth on the roof to cover the glass (permanently) instead of making it metal. There is a lot stripped out for only a $5k discount. Adding in that there's no driver assist at that price and the RWD may still be a better deal. The stock dropped $20 since the announcement because most don't think this will help Tesla sell many more vehicles and it shouldn't have been so hyped by the company and just probably posted online, silently, instead.

Edit: Since they removed the comfort suspension and double pained glass. There's no reason to get this over a used MY AWD, which would be cheaper considering all you would gain.

With no ability to FSD - it is 100 bucks a month in the teslas. Also that base price gets only 245 mile range.

The tax credits are gone for everyone too. Starting price is 43k on the 5, but maybe some dealers are discounting stock.

I have driven the 5, it is pretty good but the range and tech is not there.

The Ioniq 5 dropped in price to $36k after the tax credit ended. It has Carplay (important to some), is larger, and 800v architecture. FSD is $8k and has a take rate in the teens. It was single digit until last quarter. I don't think that's moving the needle for lost cost EV buyers.

I only buy Teslas...I wouldn't buy the new MY/3 standard because I think they are a bad value compared to other 3/Y models, but consumers aren't going to get hyped about a completely stripped MY/3 for $5k less.

True, but people like my son just pay $100 bucks when they plan on traveling.

$36k is not bad for the 5 then, but the range kills it. I know they were giving free charging for a while too, wonder if that is still on.

On a side note: I have a family member that has the 5 and just went through a headache after 3 years where the 12v battery died. The dealer told him that it is a common thing, of course it was out of warranty and a few hundred dollars. It's just a regular 12v battery that he probably could have changed at Costco/Sams for cheaper.

HW4 rolled out to MY in May2023. This car was registered 7/15 so probably HW4.

According to Hyundai, the 2026 Ioniq 5 SEL RWD (mid-range trim) will have an MSRP of $39,800, plus destination fee of $1,600, so call it $41,400. The EPA range of the 2025 SEL RWD was 318 miles; would expect the 2026 to be similar.

The Model Y Standard RWD is $41,630, including the destination and order fees. The EPA range is 321 miles.

So the 2026 SEL appears to match the new Y Standard on range and price. I'll bet the SEL is not as stripped.

The Standard Model Y and 3 are going to be low volume cars at $40k and $37k. The value proposition is missing from both vehicles.

My hunch is that both will follow the same path as the now discontinued $70k RWD Cybertruck.
