Anyway, that’s for another thread and perhaps forum.

Isn’t Teslas subsidiary Maxwell Technologies famous for working on solid state batteries? I would think Tesla is on the ball here (if solid state proves worthwhile).

I was an engineer for several iDecive products. Got into fab and validation as well.

From Maxwell they took the Dry Electrolyte process that is introduced into the 4860 cells.

No, my opinion is that they're under different design constraints that will always lead to them being used more roughly than EV batteries.

It may be that we'll see lightweight high-density batteries that are durable, just those are competing demands.

Right…like Wankle rotary engine was supposed to unseat the cast iron V8. Early technologies form insurmountable odds.

ATT aptly states that technological breakthrough must deliver 10x improvement.
Was it the Mazda that went with the Wankle? I think so. I wonder how many of those that wound up in the bone yard prematurely also had state of the art 8-track tape players?
