Food for thought, according to GROK:

If i buy FSD for my cybertruck, will I also get the unsupervised version when it come out?

Tesla has not made an official, definitive statement guaranteeing that purchasing Full Self-Driving (FSD, Supervised) outright will automatically include the future unsupervised version at no extra cost. Here's the current situation as of early February 2026:
  • What you buy today is explicitly FSD (Supervised) — the version requiring active driver supervision (hands on wheel, eyes on road, ready to intervene). This is clearly stated on Tesla's website and in support docs, where it's called "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)" and described as providing advanced driver assistance under supervision.
  • Tesla's official FSD page mentions the future of Full Self-Driving (Unsupervised) separately: "With Full Self-Driving (Unsupervised), autonomous driving will be made possible, unlocking our fleet of robotaxis and making Cybercab a reality." This is positioned as the next evolution, but it's not tied directly to existing purchases in any binding promise.
  • Elon Musk and Tesla have historically promised that FSD buyers would get the full capability (including eventual unsupervised autonomy) when it arrives, often with free hardware upgrades if needed (e.g., for older HW3 vehicles). Some recent discussions and videos reference Musk implying that outright purchasers (especially before the Feb 14 cutoff) would get unsupervised without additional fees once available.
However, community consensus (from forums like Reddit, Cybertruck Owners Club, Tesla Motors Club, and analyses on sites like Not a Tesla App and Electrek) leans toward caution:
  • Many believe Tesla could treat supervised and unsupervised as separate tiers/products. Your purchased FSD would remain a "lifetime" unlock for the supervised version (including all future supervised improvements and over-the-air updates), but unsupervised might require an additional subscription, upgrade fee, or higher-tier plan — especially as Tesla pushes subscriptions for recurring revenue (tied to Elon's compensation goals around 10M+ active subs).
  • The shift to subscription-only after February 14, 2026, supports this: New activations are monthly only ($99/mo now, expected to rise with better capabilities), detaching future promises from "lifetime" ownership.
  • For Cybertruck specifically (which uses newer hardware like HW4 or later), there's speculation about hardware limits in adverse conditions (e.g., needing self-cleaning cameras for true unsupervised in snow/rain), but no confirmation that purchased FSD locks in unsupervised.
Bottom line for your Cybertruck:
  • If you purchase FSD now (while still available as a one-time buy), you'll get the current supervised features + all ongoing supervised enhancements for the life of the vehicle.
  • Unsupervised FSD is coming (Tesla aims for regulatory approvals and rollout in phases, with some robotaxi demos already "100% unsupervised" in limited tests), but whether it's included for free for prior purchasers is not guaranteed — it's speculative and depends on Tesla's final policy.
  • Many owners advise buying now if you value the fixed price and potential upside, but temper expectations on unsupervised being "free forever."
For the most accurate answer, check your Tesla app/account details or contact Tesla support directly (they sometimes provide vehicle-specific guidance). Policies can evolve quickly with software updates or announcements. If unsupervised launches soon, watch for official clarifications from Tesla or Musk on X.

SOUNDS LIKE WE MIGHT BE BUYING A PIG IN A POKE! BUYER BEWARE!

I wish TESLA would provide better guidelines.

Elon gave a vague answer on this. He said Consumers (us) currently have FSD and as it progresses they will remove attention monitoring in response to when UFSD is coming to everyone.

Basically, there's no time frame.

Since then many of speculated that completely unsupervised (no one in the car) will be a different tier because it will require remote monitoring. FSD that you can watch a movie, but if the car asks you to take over is what those who purchase/subscribe to FSD are going to get.

Regardless, it's likely years away everywhere in the US. The Unsupervised RT is currently limited to about 1 street in Austin, during the day, on 2-3 vehicles. As that expands and Tesla gains confidence, we will need to see how they deploy in a different city. If they feel the need to map and dictate routes like they did Austin, it will be a slow process.

Why are we trusting Grok for anything speculative? Use it to tell jokes or even banter about conspiracy theories. But actionable "insider" info? Might as well ask a random person on the street.

Yeah Grok reminds me of the Idiocracy scene where the stupid people keep talking about how Electrolytes are good for plants.

Also, it seems you can still buy FSD if you get the beast and as it will still come with the luxe package. That is a lifetime FSD (as well as life time 'free' charging and network connectivity). However, the difference is when you sell the car, the FSD will not transfer to anyone else.

That's my understanding. So that's another way to get a lifetime FSD license after 2/14.
