I just finished the first half of my trip, going from Dallas TX to the Ouray CO area. Covered over 1,100 miles. 807 Wh/mi efficiency. That had a mix of everything up to 70mph. According to google maps, it was 38,000 feet of elevation gain and 31,000 of loss.

The bad: V2 superchargers, the lack of a supercharger in Durango CO, and the lack of an unlocked CT battery charging curve.

The good: where to start… felt like nothing behind me. One massive gust had me feel a shake. The vast vast majority did not require me to unhitch. Could be early/late charging though or that I traveled on July 4. Will see on way home. The efficiency I was very happy with. Look, you drive an EV so you know what you’ve gotten yourself into. Slow it down. You’re fine. Going up and over the huge passes let me go around numerous gas-hauled campers. The amount of juice in the CT is amazing.

Desperate need for Superchargers in Durango, Pagosa Springs, and Cortez. That would open up that part of Colorado immensely.

Love it!! Also, way to go on understanding “what you have gotten yourself into”. The whining on this forum from some on here complaining about EV / Cybertruck towing range is mind boggling.

glad you have a good head on your shoulders and are loving it!

Yeah … Durango has one coming this year. Cortez and Pagosa got approved for construction and got funding from CDOT. Durango has a DC charger for 250kw, but it’s CCS.

@op… did you hit up Mr Grumpy Pants brewery in Ouray?

Dumb question:

Can a private owner install superchargers on their own and charge $.xx/kwH like having a "gas station"?

If the market requirement is there, would appear private sector can solve IF Tesla makes the supercharges available....

Am I off here???

Unfortunately I don’t have a CCS adapter and certainly not one for the CT.

Haven’t hit Mr Grumpy Pants (yet). Still here for a bit. I did pass by a grumpy pants yesterday who shot me the bird. The level of hate still amazes me. I’m a fan of EVs but not a fan of mandating them or otherwise trying to get rid of ICE just for the sake of EVs. I just think that the vast majority of people once they drive an EV—with the right access to charging infrastructure and quality software updates/features—will never go back to ICE. Obviously affordability is still an issue for some.

I had a retail shopping strip, and I applied for the supercharger installation and gave him justification. There are lots of apartments around us.
After two years, I got a response back finally saying sorry we missed your application and suggested that we install the normal 12 kW chargers. We had to buy them in bulk and get them installed, but even then they didn’t respond back to me with some additional questions. Go forward.

Now people may complain about Elon firing the charging team, but we could’ve been the hotspot for the entire area with all those apartment complexes around us. I couldn’t have been happier to hear that the entire team got fired.

Getting rid of ICE is not for the sake of EVs, it is for the sake of the planet. There are NO mandates to purchase EVs. There are mandates for manufacturers to have percentages of sales by category be zero emissions or pay penalties. Selling EVs is one practical way to do that, but if you can prevent fossil fuel vehicles from producing emissions or get anti-matter pods and impulse engines to do the job cost effectively then go for it.

Yes…. https://evspot.io/ has this ability. It’s like Airbnb for chargers.

UPDATE: those effers put in 2 CCS1 chargers, in 2024, as new chargers. What idiocy! No NACS. No J1772.

The SW still has such big charging holes in between small to mid size destinations on secondary highways.

I found today good news for one of my Southwestern places:

I've been bugging one of my favorite NM places (Ojo Caliente Resort, Ojo Caliente NM) to get some sort of charging setup for a while; they got a grant from NMDOT and it looks like it's finally installed. Not Tesla NACS unfortunately, but I'll take what I can get just in case. This place is really located in a charging desert but so worth the visit.

Before the best they would offer you was using an RV space for charging at $40 a night, even though you were paying $200 + in room lodging a night.
Are EV charging stations available at the resort?
There are two charging hook-ups now available. They are located on the south end of the main parking area near the Yoga Yurt. Kit Carson Electric owns the machine and their service line is 1.844.584.2329 if you need assistance. It is an Enel Way machine with 50kW power costing $.60 per kWh.

Now I gotta figure out the Enel X app.
