While I'll skip the troll thing, misdirection is an issue here.

Fair market value (FMV) is the price a product would sell for on the open market

You will NEVER get FMV when you trade in a car. So it is pretty irrelevant. You will just about always get more in private sale, where FMV applies.

I never trade in a car in my experience you can always sell quickly on Craigslist if you put it for a few thousand less than others are asking. Last June Tesla offered 4 thousand for my daughters 2006 crv. Craigslist going price was 10 to 12 housand. I put it on for 7900 cash goes to the first person who shows up with cash. Had multiple calls with in 15 minutes and the car was gone 3 hrs later.
