After heavy rain and washing there is some water in the bed. Not sure where it’s coming from.

Same spot as both my CT’s. Guaranteed they didn’t run a continuous piece of foam tape. Like they ran out 3/4 of the way and started with a new roll. Unacceptable. I took mine apart and used a better quality single sided foam tape. Then I added the same tape to the underside of the tonneau cover cap at the bottom, farthest away from the roof. 100 times better quality seal and I have Zero leaks now. The tape is 1/2” x 1/2”. The tape just barely touches the cover as it rolls and unrolls. My cover seams to have a flat spot at the top, so if you were parked on an angle the water would find its way between the cap and the rolling cover.

Any pictures? Thanks

Can you link to the tape you used? What do you mean by “took it apart”? Any more clarity on the fix would be much appreciated. Need this to be waterproof! That’s the whole point. I haven’t spent much time but the wet area is strange in that it’s only the bottom. Ie. There isn’t a long drip coming down the side.

I will do a short tutorial on Sunday.
Correction:
Its 1/2” x 1/4” not 1/2” x 1/2”

This is basically the same thing as I used. I buy it by the box for my business, so this is a smaller amount alternative.

There is a small lip at the edge of the tonneau cover cap. Lay in the bed face up with your head towards the back seats. Run the foam tape along that edge. The cap has a slight angle and every tonneau cover has different gaps, so moving the tape either towards the tailgate or towards the back window will give you different reveals and tightness to the tonneau cover. Mine had a small gap so the tape was pushed more to the back window side. The other had a larger gap, so the tape was more towards the tailgate. The tape should brush the tonneau cover as it is closed and opened.

Part #112 is the cap in the picture.

so you don’t need to take anything apart for this to work?

In addition to some dripping from the top of the cover, which I think weather stripping should solve…I think the majority of the water comes from the picture below. Same story on both sides. Seems the top corner opening of the cover allows water to find its way inside. This one may be a tougher fix. Thoughts?

you should toss a how-to video up on youtube with an affiliate link to buy the tape!

This is if you have water coming in from the gap between the cover and the cap. The other problem is if you have water coming in from the back of the window towards the top of the cap. That is when you have to take things apart. This is the most common. To check……….. put a towel on the cap with the seam open., pour a cup of water along glass seam and tonneau cap then look inside.

Geez……….. That’s one I haven’t seen. I think alot of the problems are coming from the transition from bottom of roof glass and tonneau cover cap. I think I’m just gonna tear mine apart tomorrow and take some pics. A little Father’s Day’s alone time.

please share what you find. I’m thinking of getting a big soft sided cargo bag to use that’s the same size as the bed for when it’s raining and I have cargo that can’t get wet. Not ideal but also not horrible. Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.

As an owner of multiple trucks with electric tonneau covers (pretty much the same as what’s in the CT) and a normal tonneau cover on one of them, this is somewhat normal. These really aren’t made to be fully water proof. All of my trucks get some water when there is a super heavy rain or when I wash them. They are made to keep out 95% of the water. I never carry a computer or something that doesn’t benefit from getting wet in any of my trucks.

In any case, it’s normal. If you can water proof it with weather stripping, then you did better than me ?
