Windshield wiper issue (bottom blew out)

Hello everyone,
I washed my CY and was driving home from work a day later and doing 70 mph down the highway when all of a sudden the bottom part of the wiper blade was extending out the driver side over the mirror looking like an antenna sticking out of my CT. I pulled over to the side of the highway and looked at it, but the wiper had separated itself from the lower steel flat pieces that old it together. I had no choice but to pull it off the wiper arm and throw it into the truck. Luckily, I happen to purchase a new one with my earned Tesla Bucks. so I placed it back onto the wiper arm.

Now I have a question: I noticed that the lower part of the arm has a u shaped part sticking up that goes up inside the arm casing. I am assuming that there is nothing really holding this in under the wiper arem cover. It looks like the blade keeps itself lodged under the wiper arm and swivels back and forth as the wiper moves across the windshield.

Is there supposed to be some type of knob or something attached tothe wiper arm that holds the bottom of the blade to the wiper arm housing? It seems that if would be really easy for the blade to come out from under the arm cover if the wind blows hard enough or something pops up the wiper arm itself.

Anyone else come across this issue? Is there a part missing?

I've driven through very high and gusty winds before with no problems. I suspect you just messed it up when washing the truck.

Pay attention when you manhandle it! Did you wash it manually or drive it through a drive-thru car wash? Sometimes the cloths on those large spinning drums can wrap around the wipers or, on trucks with antennas the antenna, and rip them right off the vehicle.

I got 2 years and 67k miles on my original wiper. However I do notice when it’s swiping alot the rubber works its way down the blade. I just every few days grab the rubber and slide it back up the arm starting at the top and work my way down till it’s back where it’s supposed to be. It wipes fine but I too wonder if there is supped to be a cup or something that keeps it from sliding down.

Automatic car wash with brushes? I know CT owners who have had blade issues after automatic car washers. Especially those with the fabric brushes that slam down against the vehicle.

Also could have been someone damaging with it as the lower part is easy to mess with at ground level.

I never use car washes. I do move it to one side when I am wiping down the window with Windex afterwards to get all of the glass clean, bu been doing that for 1-1/2 years now. I guess it is possible that someone messed with it, but did not see any video showing anything. Guess it was just bad luck. I am thinking about 3D printing a part to clip over the inside of the wiper to hold down the u shape so it cannot come out again.
