If you hit a corner will the phone fly off?

I've done some reasonably tight turns and fast stops, but have not intentionally tested this setup to its fail point. I have driven about 2,000 normal miles with no issues flying off or even sliding around. My wife also puts her heavy and bulky z fold there too. Your concern is legit, and I hope a company or more experienced maker could make one with higher side walls.

This thread is about the Tesla wireless desk charger pad, which I modded to fit into the CT stock charger area for increased visibility / usability of the phone. No, I'm not implying that there are/have been different stock chargers, sorry for the confusion.

Sounds like it may not be an issue the . I do like what you have done and would prefer the charger to be in that position. I bet it is very easily accessible when your arm is on the rest and just in reach.
today I was using FSD on my way home from work. I used the mic to call my wife but that option wasn’t available. So I had to pick up my phone out of the dock to call her then the CT tells me to pay attention and put my hands on the wheel. Well I would have if the voice commands would do something as simple as call “wife”. So your solution seems to be a good one for that. I may give it a shot if I can find a cheaper one on eBay like you did. $300 in the Tesla shop is pretty steep for a phone charger.

Can you post a photo of your phone on it and your arm resting on the armrest. I’d like to see the reach if that’s not a problem. Thanks!

You get it. I've seen aftermarket charging pads for Teslas in the price range of $50-$100, I think it's possible. This $300 desk charger is really overbuilt, it's all metal, nice and heavy. One made for CT could be injection molded, fit in easily, and even leave room for 2 extra devices to charge underneath using the stock wireless pad! Also, here's your pic. It took me a while to figure out how to take a picture of my phone with my phone, but I got it

See, That's perfect! Nice set-up. Thanks for posting the photo. That's how the phones should be set up.
On another note. I noticed that when I am in FSD. I tilt my rear-view mirror up all the way and that blocks the cabin camera from seeing down there and I don't get a warning about having the phone in my hand.

I don't know how others better align the coils but my phone doesn't need better alignment as it charges just fine.

However, my pixel buds are obviously not the intended target for the phone chargers. I found that putting a block that's an inch and a half tall is enough to put the buds into charging location.

That said, I would recommend to people whose phone doesn't charge well to try putting a small object along the bottom of the charge pad to see if that improves positioning. increase it by 1/8" (.5cm) or so and try again...

Pixel 8 Pro has no issues charging.

I'm not the best with my printer, obviously. Nor did I spend much time designing the thing. What I DID do was find the best place for my pixel buds to charge and made this thick enough so they wouldn't move around. That color filament was in the printer already and has been for months... I'm usually good about removing it and keeping it away from moisture but not this time.

Also, this color was for a project for my daughter. So, I used it here.

It's 50 mm from the bottom of the 51mm diameter circle to the bottom of the holder. The thing is as wide as my phone (wanted to make sure it would fit right). I made it as thick as my pixel bud case.

I took a picture of it in my truck, but the picture must not have saved. I'll add it here later.

We definitely need better visibility and safe use of the phone with/without FSD. Being able to charge without plugging in is also a must. (Plugging in my phone feels ancient, like I'm using a fax machine or quill pen). Here's a pic of how I modded Teslas wireless desk charger for the CT. This works great. Can see the whole phone in vertical or horizontal orientation. It doesn't slide off the edge, or fly forward during a fast stop. Can give a quick glance to Waze, or a quick button press. FSD treats it just like touchscreen use, so warnings are still available for your safety.

I'd like to see an aftermarket solution like this, but for now here's what I did:

1. Purchase the wireless charger. (I found mine pre-owned on eBay)
2. Run the USB through the mount and Tape the included mount to the back, so the height is correct, and the notch aligns with the rib in the charging area.
3. Cut a piece of material to serve as ledge for the bottom of the charger to keep phone from sliding down.
4. Plug the USB into a rear slot and route alongside the passenger seat

Yeah, it's a hack job but you can't tell when looking at it!
