I suppose it’s possible the manufacturer updated the Bluetooth chipset and it is no longer Bluetooth classic.
I think this is what likely happened when they introduced UWB support. I just tested my Xbox controller on a new 2025 refreshed Model Y and it has the exact same bug. It has to be the same chipset that they use on the new Model Y and CT (haven't tested it on a Highland Model 3 though).

It pairs and connects, but the button inputs are all weird.

About two months ago, I let my son pick out any controller he wanted for the truck at Walmart. He went with this red camo Xbox controller. We went out to the truck in the parking lot and I went on to attempt connection for the better part of 40 minutes. I’m stubborn and refused to believe that I wasn’t the problem. I finally decided to google my issue and read of the Bluetooth incompatibility and the issue of having to roll back software.

we walked right back in and returned the Xbox piece, and he picked out a PlayStation controller. Less than 2 minutes back in the truck and he’s joyfully playing it after very very fast connection. They’re more expensive, but the internal battery and lack of needing to figure anything out to get it to work out of the box is well worth it to me.

both controllers oem, not aftermarket brands. I hadn’t purchased one in a while. Theyre expensive! I’m aware of the much cheaper options online but this was more of a surprise moment for my 6 yr old.
