This might be the direction I go. The truck looks good in any color. I had an appointment scheduled to go with satin gray then canceled because I like the stainless look just as much as color.

OP does it completely even out the finish and hide the imperfections? Do the emblems show through?
I liked the stainless look, too, and wanted to keep it. The emblems show through, and minor imperfections are hidden. More pronounced imperfections (deep scratches) are softened and significantly less visible. If something does come through, it's most visible in direct peak sunlight. If it's morning, evening, or overcast, you can't really see anything. Overall, the finish is much more uniform.

When putting PPF over Vinyl its best to use 6.5mil PPF so its easier to wrap the edges. I messed up enough pieces :) lesson learned
How about the other way around? Vinyl over PPF? I will wrap the edges with vinyl. Not looking to do this anytime soon, but there isnt a lot of information on the subject. I was told by the guys at the tint shop it wasn't an issue and wouldn't affect the PPF when removed, I'm curious about this as well.

Sweet! thanks
So it still has a pretty good shine to it right?
There still is a shine or reflection, but its muted, not as "mirror" I would say. I also dont have to deal with tarnishing or SS color change over time.

I

Im a little disappointed they couldn’t not provide a better solution than that. To hear that you were able to get a piece cheaper then what they were going to replace it for and you bought the kit from them is not right
I found it odd that a cut piece from them was nearly twice the price of a much larger uncut piece from XPEL. Their "screw-up warranty" is simply, we will take care of you. I messed up the piece, so I fully expected to pay for a replacement; no issue with that. I was surprised by the cost, though. Just glad it wasn't the rear quarter panel. Tesbros now has a program that you pay a little upfront, $100 to $200, and they will cover a few pieces you screw up. I like the clairty in that, and it seems fair. This is the first time I've bought a kit from Tsportline, primarily for the XPEL product, but I'll go back to Tesbros for future purchases. The installation tools are better in their kits.

Wow, so they didn't give you the piece you messed up? Don't they say on their website, and posts here, that they'll give you the replacement piece at cost? So we're led to believe they pay more than retail from the manufacturer for a piece of PPF? Kind of shady. I was on the fence and considering a DIY PPF too. Thanks for the post.
It surprised me, too. I was fine with paying since it was 100% my screw-up. The first piece I've ever messed up. You can see the cost differences for full transparency. Cutting the hood piece to the edge was pretty easy, but that might not be the case for other sections.

Change the look. Vinyl isn't as durable, and I doubt I would use a vinyl wrap for more than a year or two.

OldDirtyRobot, thanks for your replies. They are very informative.

Yes, I've gone with XPEL on my 2 other Teslas but with the CT and the possibility of off roading I'm considering a "less expensive" route based on possible needed "repairs" to the surface after a spirited off road run.

I'm no expert on this but I would never put vinyl on top of PPF. You will lose the healing properties of PPF and gain the non healing/permanent scars from road debri with vinyl.

Thanks again for your replies.

Yesterday I noticed that Aliexpress.com is selling matte and satin clear PPF wraps that are precut for each panel for $569 for the whole truck. Anyone interested just search Cybertruck Accessories to find them.
I saw that too last week. Some one try it first and tell us how it went .

Exactly. I figured for the price that would be a way to test out my DIY wrap skills. I would go for the clear. I prefer the spaceship silver look. Not needing to baby the truck with a PPF and no worries about door dings etc are a big advantage to me. My only desire for a wrap is to avoid the natural oxidation of the 30x SS and of course finger prints.

Tony, sorry this didn't go as I expect for your 'replacement' part. We typically have replaced panels for DIY'er who struggled or asked, and haven't charged them. We don't charge and extra 100-200 for this security either.

The reason we 'sell' replacements is primarily for folks that 'down the road' need to replace a panel because of damaging the vehicle (ie an accident, or something). Some customers have bought replacement panels for things like this, or like you felt it was 'on them' and offered to buy panels. The re-sale of panels is not intended for situations where a customer struggled and messed up a panel during install. So that said, I would have been happy to replace you hood at no cost. However, if you simply called and asked for a price on a replacement panel, I am sure our team would offer a price -- unless you expressed something along the lines of "I struggled on the DIY install and really messed up the hood, how can you help me". If you did express this and my team went into selling panels, that was a mistake on our end!

As for the cost of a replacement panel - it's easy to explain. We buy XPEL by 60" wide rolls. So for a hood, that's 7ft x 60" - we blow the full sheet for a re-plot. Looks like you wisely ordered a 36" wide slice only -- which is no doubt less expensive, and it is raw film (not cnc cut & weeded), it's raw material.

Our goal has always been to help customers succeed with DIY kits - we have many success, it's been a great program for us. Some customers nail it, some customers struggle. We do our best to help every customer - that is a 100% promise.

Feel free to PM me if I can help at all or if you have other issues, I'm here for you!

How I worded the request. I wanted to be clear I wasn't trying to scam a free hood piece.

Body:Order 1058858

I messed up the hood piece during my DIY installation. It's completely my fault. I had one small section that wouldn't stay down, and I grabbed a higher-concentration spray bottle of alcohol that l used for surface prep, rather than the tack solution, and sprayed it in the spot. It melted that section of the PPF. Can I reorder just the hood piece? Xpel Stealth Satin, clear.

Yes, thanks for sharing - I see we quoted a replacement price as requested, but we have reminded our DIY wrap support team to make a phone call to the customer and understand the circumstances and help however we can first! Thanks again!
