I completely agree. Not everything has to be designed around the lowest common denominator. Those without credit or bank accounts can't participate in numerous activities due to their lack of an accepted method of payment. For instance, they can't rent a vehicle. They can't even use some modern vending machines. This status doesn't make them any less valuable as a person, but some venues just aren't set up for cash payments. It takes a lot more manual labor and expense to pay a salesman/cashier than it does to buy a machine that does everything for you.

Apparently some people here think we should have cash attendants at Superchargers. People who have messed up their lives so much that they can't use tech, or who refuse to adapt, will be left behind. How many buggy whip makers do you know?

That said, truly anyone can get a prepaid card with zero credit check. GasBuddy and some other fuel app have their own prepaid.

All @Crissa was saying is that loyalty apps like the BP app I mentioned discriminate against people who don't have credit cards and that is why she didn't like it. I agree with her, that is a valid argument. I get a discount (5¢ off per gallon minimum) because I use the app where someone who doesn't have access to a credit card cannot. The specific comment she made had nothing to do with purchasing EV's or charging them.

I get 6% off with Amex on groceries and 3% off on gas. Yes, it discriminates by consumer behavior and value. That's how life is and should be. Making bad decisions has a cost. I know, I've been poor. Like choosing which day to each the last ramen poor. Mostly my bad decisions.

Now I just think you're arguing just to argue.

Your "evidence" only says you don't need a BP branded CC. I am aware of that. I do not have a BP credit card, I have a bank CC linked to it.

Some people say you shouldn't use k-cups for coffee because it's bad for the environment. Some people say we should outlaw ICE vehicles so we move to BEV's to save the environment. Some people say you shouldn't use plastic straws because they get stuck in sea turtles noses. All @Crissa was pointing out, is that loyalty programs often discriminate against people who don't have/can't get CC's and Bank Accounts. Use that information however you want.

You do realize the 5¢ (or 3¢ at Safeway) is actually payment for allowing Safeway to sell all your information including how much gas you purchase. Paying cash cuts off this income source for gas companies.
