Just got back from a week of camping. Had some minor water intrusions by the rear corners between the Urander cap and popup tent that I didn’t seal that well. Otherwise it was great. That’s insanely cool…you beat them to it. lol
Have you been out in it? How is it? Any cons?
Ordered it directly from Qian via Alibaba and the transaction was very smooth. The long wait for the shipment to be delivered was understandable since it was by ship. They give you tracking information for the shipment. You can even track where the ship is on the ocean. The whole process including the manufacturing to delivery took about 3 months because I ordered it before the Chinese New Year and they were on break. They will send you pics and video to confirm that you are ok before you pay the balance of your order.So..how was the experience of ordering it and getting it? Did you get it from alibaba or the manufacturer themselves?
Around $3500?
quality looks very nice from a 3ft distance at least.
Also, the wind deflector, can you tell us a little about that? Interesting design. Is it part of the tent kit or something you made yourself? Does it work well?
how impactful is the whole thing on your range?
Honestly one of the coolest builds I’ve seen bar none. Bravo.
I prefer to keep the tonneau as it adds an extra layer of security to the contents of the vault.also could you delete your tonneau cover for weight savings? what does max height at lowest suspension level end up being?
looks pretty cool!
There are 8 bolts total that mount onto the Urander cap.So how is it attached to the top of the urander rack and how do you make that watertight?
Sorry for the grilling I’m just totally enamored with it and think I might want to replicate it.There are 8 bolts total that mount onto the Urander cap.
4 of those bolts go through and through into the corners of the Urander rails that the cross bars attach to.
4 other bolts go through Urander cross bars in from the non-moveable part of the sleeping platform.
I used some foam tape and foam weather stripping from home depot between the Urander cap and the bottom of the tent.
That is very cool and creative of you. I am testing the full length Urander prototype right now, and I can't wait to share all the details with DIY-ers. It's a fun add-on that will make my travel adventures easier and more fun.
The tent is bolted onto four Urander cross bars that are typically held in place with T-slot nuts and bolts by friction. I chose to drill through the T-slot rail instead of using the friction nuts that slide in there. That would prevent the crossbars from sliding along the T-slot rails. Then the tent was bolted through those four crossbars.Sorry for the grilling I’m just totally enamored with it and think I might want to replicate it.
so the bolts are on the tent and they line up with the urander rack slots basically?
I love the Urander products but I opted for the hard walled popup tent instead of fabric for reasons you can surmise. That is very cool and creative of you. We have been using for about a month and a half and figure out a few optimizations that if Urander leverages our feedback exactly, it will be incredible for even long term use (van life stuff).
Here a few photos from a couple of weeks ago. I had a small emergency surgery after this, so I don't have a lot more to share at the moment.
