[Update: Luxury Tax Removed!] Tesla working to remove luxury tax on Cybertruck in Canada

The Cybertruck will cost $137,990 (AWD) and $165,990 (Tri-Motor) in Canada.

That means the Canada federal luxury tax works out to be $8,173.20 for the AWD Cybertruck and $13,773.20 for the tri-motor Cyberbeast.

But it appears that Tesla is working to get this luxury tax removed for Canadian customers (on the grounds its GVWR weight is more than the 3,856kg (8,501lbs) upper threshold weight for the luxury tax).

According to Siddhant Awasthi, the Cybertruck Vehicle Program Manager, Tesla is "working on fixing this." - referring to the fact that the Tesla Canada website currently includes the luxury tax as part of the Cybertruck purchase price in Canada.

Really thinking of pulling the trigger on this one. I don't see the luxury tax but I get this message

"Taxes and fees calculated using the Purchase Price and current taxes and fees. Additional taxes and fees may apply."

It seems they are kinda covering their butts incase there is a luxury tax? That message is the only thing holding me back as it seems pretty vague and could be a huge difference in price. Also is there no EV rebates in Ontario for this?

Can’t even believe in this country we have to be happy about a tax (exemption) on a FULLY ELECTRIC vehicle. But welcome to Canada!!!

That’s what it says for me too. I’m in bc

Curious how many Canadians are going for this vs waiting for non-FS edition. I have been waiting since 2019 and just cant bring myself to justify dropping this kind of coin on the FS edition. Luxury tax removal is a step in right direction but no other incentives?
