Flat bottom hulls are known to draft very shallow depths but are also not stable in rough seas. No taking CTs into the ocean! Intercostals and lakes should be fine. The center of mass is low in EVs so that should help. I think if the doors are soft close, it’s very plausible that it will be water tight up through the stainless doors.

The tailgate and frunk are my concerns. The latest beta walk around showed a gasket at the tailgate but a self closing/soft close tailgate would probably help to ensure water tightness. Plus that tailgate ramp will definitely add some weight and make it harder to close. The frunk will need HD gaskets and soft close as well.

I can’t see Tesla spending resources on a hitch mounted electric prop but they already make turbine style wheels. Don’t sell you boat but during a storm surge/flood situation, you should be good.

If they add a propeller and a motor just for that propeller it will be a motor boat. It would need to be registered as a boat unless the motor is below 10 hp. It will need to carry life vests and have bow and stern lights.
There will be no hitch prop from tesla.
The wheels are another story...

I’m just gabbin here but:

the whole “amphibious” notion is strange
I recently got back home to NJ after visiting Ft Lauderdale. 25” of rain in 24 hrs will make you start wondering about amphibious capacity. I saw a lot of Teslas floating (dead) on the roads from drone footage.

In 2021, my house got hit by a EF3 tornado, in South Jersey! You never know what you’re going to face.

They made plenty of room to store life vests.

don’t get me wrong, I’m not doubting the CT will be able to float… some.

it’s construction is basically the same as an aluminum framed ship with steel shell plating strakes.

and to keep the aluminum from touching the stainless steel (and the truck crumbling into dust), I assume they’ll use gobs of glue and resin

all-in-all, a pretty good floater, in a pinch.

but what’s “strange” is to be anywhere near advertising it as a functionality.

it will not function well as a “boat.”

and I will be surprised to find that they construct it with any marine-like construction of the bits and bobs that would be subjected to water - like the bumper-level light housings, the trailer pin connector, etc.

So might the CT be an OK floater in a pinch, when you don’t care about risking damage to $1,000 light housings etc.? Sure, maybe!

Will there be some yahoos in Louisiana who attempt to take it gator hunting for a season, and be left with a mess? Sure, maybe!

Those are two “sure, maybe”s that kind of balance themselves out, to my ear

I don't think its an illusion.

I reckon by removing the middle seat, they created more space than they needed and found a way to use it constructively.

I don’t find it hard to think the CT floats well!

Bit harder to think it dries off well.

I don't really want my CYBERTRUCK to float. When I ford a stream I'd rather have the wheels stay in contact with the bottom than float away in the current.
