Um, no. Such a weird thing to say. Those impact patterns were obviously caused by a small number of short bursts at close range, until the magazine was empty. It's obvious it was not shot one at a time, especially the little "oops" off to the right, on the rear quarter panel.

you think the above is “obviously” short bursts from an fullauto? out of a Thompson, of all things?

I post Cybertruck stuff on the Internet and people like it.

Assuming they used a true Thompson (and not just some rifle with a drum magazine), the drums are 50 or 100 rounds

They emptied the drum, while this CT has >50 but <100 impacts

where’d those other rounds go
Somebody dug into this on Twitter, but I guess there’s some 75 round magazines now as well?

Per Elon Musk:

"We emptied the entire drum magazine of a Tommy gun into the driver door Al Capone style. No bullets penetrated into the passenger compartment."

Yep...now he has some real guns!

Looks pretty serious as a test though and limited to only the doors.
Almost, however you just have to change out the 2x LH doors and you'll get that RWC easy here in Oz! Who knows, if you say it gets shopping trolley dings all the time, they might just pass it as is!

This is pretty cool... But they were not specific to what it stopped. If it was a .45 acp, not too bad. Originally they talked in terms of a 9mm. That is a fairly common low end round. My carry weapons are .40 or 10MM, My fun guns are .357 or .44 magnum. I pretty much doubt the skin would stop any of those. I can't imagine it stopping any of my rifle rounds. Still, this is as close to an armored car as I would ever own. I have two of these trucks on order from 2019, but I don't know when they might deliver? 2025 and 2027 are my best guesses, and I don't know if they will even be relevant when I get them.

I don’t think you can get to your second point from your first assertion. I think this is much ado about nothing. Almost everywhere in the US we are talking a serious felony, and multiple felonies if there is anyone anywhere even NEAR the vehicle. The bangers that might shoot at the CT are going to shoot at the CT anyway because you’re gonna get jacked. And the psychos who have guns, were just as big a threat before the CT launch as they are now. I’m not the least bit concerned. And I live in SoCal, home of the drive by.

Copycats is not a new problem.

Remember the shooter believing Elon, might think the Cybertruck really is bulletproof and does not know the glass is much less resistant than the steel parts.
They just want to scuff up the Cybertruck and put the EV buyers, global climate change & environmentalists in their place.

The Psychology of "Copycat Killers" Exploring the relationship between crime-related media coverage and murder.
Posted July 13, 2021 | Reviewed by Ekua Hagan

Key points

* According to a study of 574 people in prison, 22% admitted to having committed a copycat crime.

* Data shows most copycat killers already had a violent streak before they began killing.

* Crime-related media coverage can give troubled individuals inspiration, ideas, and impetus to brag about their plans.

-----------------------------------------

A copycat crime is a criminal act that is modelled after or inspired by a previous crime. It notably occurs after exposure to media content depicted said crimes, and/or a live criminal model. According to a study, copycat crime is a social phenomenon that persists and is prevalent enough to have an impact on the whole criminal landscape, primarily via influencing criminal tactics as opposed to criminal motive or the emergence of criminal traits.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copycat_crime

.....
The term was first coined in the early 20th century, following crimes inspired by Jack the Ripper. Due to the increase of replicated crimes, criminologists soon began to believe that media coverage played a role in inspiring other criminals to commit crimes in a similar fashion,
*** and even for non-criminals to begin committing crimes when they otherwise might not have done so. ***

Not limited to doors. Did not do whole door. Only half of each door.

Conveniently skipped the weak top half of each door (the glass) which is where most criminals aim when trying to shoot or threaten driver & passengers of vehicle.

This Cybertruck test is like a burglar who tries to break though a brick wall of house instead of breaking through plate glass window that does not have security bars.

Gun nerd time! 45ACP is famously non-penetrating due to its wide meplat and short depth combined with shorter case and lower charge, however it does carry significantly more energy out of a 16” barrel from a rifle than 9mm does out of a typical 4” handgun barrel. Originally Elon said bulletproof up to 9mm so the final product is actually more bulletproof than the prototype… I doubt that’s a design spec and more likely the happy result of crash testing. Either way it’s perfect for modern day LA or Portland ??

Would love to know if they also tested other types of rifle rounds such as NATO 5.56 and 7.62!
CT wouldn’t stand a chance. 45ACP out of a rifle is clocking somewhere around 500-600ftlbs of muzzle energy. 5.56 and 7.62x39 are more like 1500ftlbs plus Rifle rounds travel much faster and have a penetrating bullet shape, apples and oranges. This does prove it’s handgun proof outside of magnum rounds, and the vast majority of crime and murder in the US is done with handguns (99.99%).

I think as result of two things. Needing a nice rigid panel for regular tow and payload loads, and having 3mm cold rolled stainless already be a thing for Starship.
