Does the range extender option really eliminate the spare tire option? The range extender is supposed to take up a third of the six-foot bed, so about two feet, right?

When I take measurements on the official photo I'm getting a 40% loss of length at full height. The volume lost might only be 30% as there is still some space above the range extender. Maybe this would fit the spare with nothing else? Personally I would rather they raise the range extender up by 15cm so we can still fit drywall (large flat fragile) or skis in the back.
Overall the 67cuft storage may be cut to around 40-50cuft... which is similar to the space behind the rear row of a 5 seat model X.

Oh you could likely shove a spare into the compartment but then all you have is a 7500lb 5 seater with around the same storage space as a model Y.

Which is kind of close to what we have not, except a model Y has more than 200 miles of range

And that was without towing. Man, thats going to be a non starter for folks looking to tow anything substantial. I had a dream of getting an airstream and taking these Environmentally friendly roadtrips but it looks like that may still be a decade off.

Yup, really hope there is a Cybertruck refresh on the horizon in the next year or so. I think if they add another 60kwh to the battery so people can get 150ish miles when towing it will make this vehicle a real truck possibility. Until then it is basically a big SUV or minivan with a SS exterior.

Easy to answer, not gonna happen.
Model 3 refesh is happening about 6 years after introduction.

But this is a Tesla, unlike the Toyotas that you have drive, the Cybertruck that you buy today will not be the same as the one you have next year.

Elon is just going to have to accept the fact that trucks are work horses and they can only do that with power. He will have to double up the battery pack like they did on the hummer. Probably get the real range over 500 miles if they did that.

Yea putting the name TRUCK implies it will be able to do truck things, this truck will be awesome if it has another 100 kwh battery (not in the truck with stupid range extender)

Since the range is only about 10% less than expected (440 of 500), yes. That's because the Tesla engineers have already indicated this.

Charge time, you obviously just understand that there is a difference between 800V and 400V systems. And yes, they should be able to tune the charging better.

What are your definitions of a work truck?

Please give detailed, quantifiable criteria.

I know that for some, a 1/2 ton pickup, or for that matter, any pickup wouldn't be a real truck. After all it's not called a truck, it's a pickup.

50 min charge times to reach the next supercharger are tough. Most people don't need an hour to stretch their legs, get a snack, and use the bathroom, especially after only driving 2 hours....

The guy who owns the truck finally compiled the final numbers here.

The Cybertruck Foundation Series has an estimated range of 320 miles on its all-wheel drive option. But, Wang said, at times, it felt as if that range was cut in half. The pair stopped 12 times during the 1,340-mile trip, which rounds out to just more than 110 miles between charges, and Wang said they stopped every one to two hours to recharge. While the pair took turns driving straight through the night, he said, the stops turned what could have been a 20-hour road trip into a 27-hour one.

Wang attributed the inefficiencies in range to the cooler temperatures in Texas and his tendency to speed. He said he'd seen improved range since driving the car in California's more temperate climate. He also said that closing the tonneau, the cover that spans the back of the truck, helped improve the Cybertruck's range.

Assuming a highway driving speed of 70 mph, the trip would take about 19 hours non-stop.

If the trip actually took 27 hours, then that implies about 8 hours of charging time total.

If there were 12 stops, then that implies an average of about 40 minutes per stop.

If there were about 111 miles between stops, then that would be about 95 minutes of driving time at 70 mph between stops. This seems consistent with the statement above that "they stopped every one to two hours to recharge."

They apparently made 12 stops, while the route planner initially predicted only 10 stops, as per Post #2 above. But seems like leaving the tonneau open and driving aggressively could have hurt efficiency.

The bed is not 67cu ft.

The website says “67cu ft of lockable storage”

The 67 is bed+frunk+smuggler’s bay

the 3.3cuft in smuggler’s bay remains either way, but the bed volume with vault is 56.2cu ft

That’s 3 cu ft more than an F150 5.5” bed (before adding a topper)

a 30% loss of volume from 56cu ft is 39 cu ft, 42 if you want to count smugglers bay


What do you think is the right conversion rate of volume loss % to utility loss %?

FYI the OP trip: Some of that may have been at 80MPH posted speed limit. In Tx that means 85 or better. Still I think the CT range is adequate for non-long haul trailer pulling. Charging speed will probably increase as 800V charging rolls out.
