Look at Tesla's track history. How many changes have they done to the Model 3 battery and how much range was increased? Same for the Model Y.
About the only thing that was done is a switch to a cheaper batter for the lower range cars. And for the Model 3, I believe that there has been about a 30-mile range increase, mostly due to software.

There are hundreds of new battery technologies annouced every year. Only about 1% of those make it anywhere. And probably only 1% of those ever make it into production.

The big increase in batteries has been in production ability and reducing the cost of the battery.
100% agree! I don’t think Cybertruck will have significant improvements in version 2.
How did you manage to chat with them? That looks like it’s from the app, right?
Yes it’s from the app. They sent a message to complete the pending tasks, and I replied to that message.

It’s crazy how some reps are able to change it and others cant. Some say you can and others say you can’t. In the OP’s case, they were able to. Which I am glad, but All Tesla centers need to get on the same page

I can't afford to tack on the price of another car, to the truck.

So I'll wait.

I just got the invite yesterday. That $100k price point is truly a pothole at the finish line of a long long wait. I am with you. I cant justify spending that on an asset that is just going to depreciate and likely fairly quickly. i can see how you get a lot of perks like FSD and the Power Share, but it just seems crazy. watch it drop to $70 in 6 months and a lot of the FS holders get upset because they paid $100k, they rarely use the power share and the FSD isn't going to work for a couple years.

Then you can just ignore the invite and wait for the standard invite.

But there are people who value the feature set and believe that it is worthwhile, to each their own.

Went to my Tesla service center yesterday.

Talk to a rep who said he can't or won't.

Tesla is in this business for decades and they act like they are start up and talking to them is like amateur hour. They don't have a set policy or escalation process when dealing with a customer's inquiry like this.

Thinking through from Tesla perspective there is no damage, extra cost and just slight convenience if a customer ask for a downgrade.,

Since no VIN yet, of even if there is one, they can go ahead and assign it to another customer in line. And they won't be losing a customer either as he is set for another but different configuration.

Not looking good for my Tesla stocks.

I feel like I should update everyone even though I have not been updated by Tesla on this matter but in the interest of making sure people do not make a mistake based on anything shared here.

I have not received updated doc's as I was told I would. I have reached out several times by text about the revised documents reflecting the change to non foundation series and have had reply's that they would have the advisor who made the change reach out to me. I have not had contact from that advisor. I am sure this is not a priority to them or he could be off but my gut tells me he made an error or was corrected after he made the change to my order and is avoiding the conversation with me.

Not sure what I will do but for now I will sit tight and let this play out.

I am hopeful for you but not personally optimistic.

I maybe getting my VIN soon. The center had already 3 deliveries.

Good luck to you anyways.

I called Tesla again and sales rep said "yes, can do" . he said "wait for a change in app" , then hung up. Then I noticed I forgot to mention about a return of deposit, so called up again. then next rep said no, did not see any record of change in my account, its still order for foundation. I am tired of this low quality of operation at customer service....maybe last chance is when we get a vin? but once we get a vin and cancel it, we might lose reservation and all deposit(100+250) :( anyway, thanks for your update.

Yeah, most likelly. With a VIn, your unit is already on production line or on schedule wirh all the components in for assembly.

If you have not ordered and you do NOT want a Foundation Series truck, you have the option of doing nothing and that will maintain your place in line.

The issue is IF YOU ORDER. If you don't order, chill, your next time will come.

Or Join the Elite Foundation
Get a ring from the Foundation. :D

Tesla Cybertruck Tesla will change Foundation Series order to Non-FS without penalty (YMMV) foundation heads* 2024-01-20 14-19-08

You seem to have a great attitude given the difficulty in getting a quick answer, appreciate you keeping us updated as this option for many like myself makes the most sense.

100% agree! I don’t think Cybertruck will have significant improvements in version 2.
I agree with the idea they are not going to improve CT much, especially from a battery / range sentiment. They aren't going to put a 200 kWh battery in this thing. The chemistry improvements might increase kWh by ~5%... or they'd just actually make the pack have fewer cells to save money.

They arrived at this battery size intentionally.

The two things that could be better are charging speeds and range.

Range would benefit greatly by not having bulletproof doors. They could probably reduce vehicle weight by 200lbs.

Charging speed is probably low now as they learn how this pack works in the real world. There are probably less than 1000 CT's running around this first winter too. I imagine it will increase a bit with time OTA... HOWEVER, another revision to chemistry is very unlikely to make much difference noticable to real-world ownership. (every chassis gets a VIN even if never fully produced so I don't buy the larger production estimates people keep throwing out).

I called to request this downgrade (pre-VIN#), mostly to delay until the 4860 V2 or v3 battery packs are proven, my customer service rep did not know about this and is trying to look into it and get back to me.

I'll take the tank doors over slight weight reduction.
