It's actually a very nice gesture. He's probably road tripping with his friends in a second vehicle, and they were going to miss the big game. This allows the second vehicle to watch TV and know the score while they head to the log cabin.

The more I think about it this can't be true or if it is I'm sure it will be changed with a software update, too many important use cases of being able to charge tools etc while driving.

That is what has been reported and currently in the manual for the bed. I was shocked as use my electric cooler in Rivian all the time. Someone mentioned some type of engineering issue which likely will be updated eventually. Lots of surprises so far that hopefully will be improved. Otherwise I'm keeping my R1T, as only issue it has for me is the smaller backseat.

I agree, definitely can be fixed with a software update, during the initial delivery you couldn't use the outlet to charge another Tesla while you were charging the CT. They recently fixed that in a software update according to some early owners.

I wanted to put an inflatable Christmas decoration in the bed of my Lightning during the holiday season, all of them had lights inside so it wouldn't have been legal. This is extra illegal, at least in my state.
