I know there's a lot of buzz on these and I also read several initial owners who received the v1 hubcaps hate them and don't want them anyway, but man I really love them! So much so that I don't mind replacing the tires if the hub caps end up eating them (very unlikely, but sure). Is there anyone who received those and won't mind letting them go?

In return, I can either:
  1. Give you my new v2 hub caps when I receive them (you might receive them from Tesla yourself anyway, but mentioning this FWIW)
  2. Pay money to buy them
I'd really appreciate this. I have seen some ebay listings for insane pricing that doesn't make sense to pay - just wondering if there are any generous owners who hate them and won't mind letting them go (for a reasonable price or any other arrangements they are open to). I am based in Dublin, CA but can drive anywhere in the Bay to pick up. Thanks a lot!

Well, we do not know what the V2 aero covers look like. I'm still hoping the V2 covers are the same design as V1, just with updates to eliminate the rubbing.

We shall see.

I think they are going to keep the same looking design (not the ugly standard cover) but span the cover enough to account for the bottom expansion issue that is causing this. Just have to do a proper testing before calling it a fix. That was as important to keep for Tesla as the drl was.

Kinda love it that "original" and "legacy" parts market is already beginning to develop!

someone on reddit speculated that there will be a new legacy hubcap with a rubber interface that doesn't effect the wheel.

I sell a cap on etsy, if you need something to cover it in the meantime.

I think the redesign might be a bit of a challenge. You need to have something touch a flexing tire without friction happening, or you put space between the tie and cap. If you have space, stuff could get stuck between cover and tire, or it could cause airflow issues. Maybe you could coat the cap with teflon where it touches the tire to reduce enough friction to eliminate the issue?

I doubt this is the problem that stumps a smart engineer. But a solution has to be inexpensive and scalable. That’s tougher.
