As folks are still getting FS invites, my speculation is that Tesla will eventually send FS invites to pretty much all reservation holders to make it fair. Then they might switch to non FS Beast, and then regular AWD. This might take a year, two, honestly even Tesla might know as nobody knows how many reservation holders will go through FS order once they get it, just like you.
That makes no economic sense. Tesla is currently bleeding money on CT because of VERY LOW capacity utilization (3% or so). It will be a big drag on EPS and GM if they don't ramp up quickly. I don't see this dragging out for 2 more years. Troy estimates 30k delivered this year. So, unless you think they will make 30k FS - we will see regular CT delivered this year.

It’s not about production rate, it’s about demand. If there are 30K customers willing to buy FS, Tesla will make 30K FS.

Its about ramping up. The faster they ramp up - the better it is for the bottomline.

I don't think people appreciate how much of a drag the low production is on GM .... It is better to ramp up a week earlier than get that 20k more on a few more vehicles.

There is also the brand perception etc we don't need to get into now. Suffice to say Tesla is not a overnight operator trying to maximize ASP in the short term.

ps : BTW, there is a lot of cost to changing plans - if they planned to make 10k FS and ordered parts etc accordingly - it is not easy to make double the amount just because there may be people willing to pay. Afterall they will have to invite more and more people to get that one extra order ... most committed buyers are the earliest reservation holders.

At the rate folks are accepting, why not order now if it’s within your means. No one knows what pricing will be like after the Foundation series. This is not a M Y,X or S. It’s a novelty car that might take a while to bleed off demand. You are retired enjoy.

To ramp up fast, they need to keep increasing the capital. 20K per car extra revenue is not a small amount. Foundation Series is same as regular with extra accessories. So it’s not a huge dent to order new accessories if there is demand. The parts needed to manufacture the vehicle are same. So my prediction is that Tesla will continue to send FS invites till they exhaust the reservation list, and then they will switch to regular Beast.

Think of it this way - let’s say there are 50 people at the end of reservation line who are willing to buy Beast Foundation. If you are running a business, give me one good reason why you will leave 2 million dollars revenue on the table. You can use that to increase production. If customers are not getting couple of bottle openers or hub caps accessories for few months, who cares.

The only reason everyone is not getting FS invites right away is because Tesla doesn’t want people to wait for a year to get VIN.

Let’s see! Time will tell. I’m only speculating. If their strategy pisses off several early reservation holders, like me, they might not do it because of PR reasons.

@Nebucheri,

Talk is cheap on social media sites like this. None of us really understand your specific situation. But the best opinions are likely from those who have actually gone ahead with the CT FS.

I'm in the middle of getting my garage built. So, until that's done (likely late this Summer/Fall), I don't have to stress over a decision like yours. And I haven't gotten the invite yet either. I'm RN112936XXX. And I was sure I wouldn't get a FS invite until Fall, if they even extended the series out. But your RN is uncomfortably close to mine.

It‘s a personal decision.

Me? If my order came up today for the $100k + FS AWD CT I will pass and wait for the $79,990 “normal“ version.

It may also qualify for the $7500 federal tax credit bringing your net cost down to a more reasonable $72,500.

Highly doubt there will be regular versions sold this year.

Next year is more likely. And the price is still estimated. The regular one might cost more than the foundation lol

The capital has been spent for 250k cars a year. Utilization is now at 3% - they have to increase it for it to be not a drag on GM & EPS. If you want to discuss further we need to move to a more appropriate forum ... or just see this.

The truth is .... the price always goes down. Tesla simply won't be able to sell 250k trucks that cost $100k a year. Once all the die-hard fans buy - there will be a lull in demand that forces Tesla to introduce cheaper versions. Like it happened even with Model 3 in Q1/Q2 '19. New S & X have seem big price reductions too.

I've not yet decided whether to order FS or not - but if I do - it will be fully expecting that in a year or two CT will cost less and will probably be better too.

The Tesla Cybertruck needs to sell in VOLUME.

It appears that the ramp up is moving along nicely. I'm curious to know if they are hitting their internal production targets. Tesla is almost at the 3-month point of CT production.
