I expect the aftermarket will come up with something that will truly take this to the next level. It is hard for auto companies to compete against someone who focuses on outdoor lifestyle products exclusively. My guess is 12 months from now the market will be ripe for the upcoming Spring/Summer/Fall season.

Someone will deliver this...

I hope so. But realistically, will any 3rd party invest in R&D + production costs for such a niche solution for a single vehicle (which may also have slight design changes over the coming years which could create compatibility issues)? Maybe, maybe not. I was trying to find any custom RTT options for the Rivian R1T and didn’t find anything. Granted, the R1T body/bed is basically just the same as any other small truck (Tacoma, Colorado, etc) so it doesn’t require a special design. That said, I could easily see a third party develop a set of cross bars that can be installed along the vault rails + then you can install any standard back/front entry rooftop tent <55 inches wide (maybe closer to 50 inches to be on the safe side).

I'm with ya. It is really sad that an aftermarket company will have to manufacture a tent that will look like what Tesla advertised for years!

I hope they do also. After being a member of this forum for almost 4 years, I don't know how niche this product will be. If you did a poll, I bet that there are plenty of CTOC members that would invest in a good quality / easy to install tent solution for the Cybertruck. We have been talking about camping in the Cybertruck for quite some time. The current demand for Cybertruck seems to be alot higher than Rivian and F150L currently, as well.

this is the silliest tent i've ever seen. people, if you've never camped before, buy a Eureka. haul your tent and other camp gear (stove, water, goods) in the back of the truck and set up your new Eureka tent to the side or behind.

Like this? I'm having the local to me Xtrusion Overland checkout rack possibilities once I get CT.

Love the setup on RIT. Have a hoist that with 12 bolts the rack and tent come off and out of way.

Is it not very strong?
It’s strong, but there isn’t a ton of overhead space. I also wouldn’t want to run the risk of something unexpectedly going wrong and crushing a kiddo.

so I think that there could be a even more simple and elegant way to do this from the vault rails. Rather than having a non-aerodynamic set of crossbars that stick up vertically, I think that a set of rails that stay within the vault could easily accommodate a 2 to 3 person rooftop tent like the roof nest sparrow.

We will look at all possibilities. I have 3 teenagers so need the full size for our expeditions. About a 20% range impact on R1T

Please, I mean no disrespect, but that thing is shockingly ugly from behind. A little like a homeless tent. But like you say, maybe it needs the awning to complete the look.
Yeah, some homeless tents are better looking than this. I am from Seattle, i have seen lots of homeless tents. ?

Yeah the Basecamp ain’t fitting that.

Makes sense - definitely not fitting more than 2 adults or 1 adult + 2 small-medium size kiddos on a ~full size (truck bed width) mattress. So is the Basecamp a practical >3 person family camping solution? Nope, unless you bring along an extra tent for the kids to use on the ground as you and your spouse enjoy the privacy of your $3k mini mansion.

First attempt: around 15 minutes for setup and 20 minutes for takedown. I could see cutting both of those times in half pretty easily.
Confirmed - made a second run at it today and cut my times in half. Putting the tent away was much eaier this go round because the fabric tent bag might have loosened up a bit.

After setting it up, taking it down, and living with it for a bit, would you say it is worth the price or if doing it over would you use a standard tent with some modifications?
I’ll make one more run at setup + takedown today and chew it over a bit. It’s not an easy decision. On the one hand $3K for a 2-3 person for tent feels silly
Yup see attached photo.

Ok thanks a bunch, $3k is a lot of money in the tent world, just trying to determine if because Tesla made it, it is more expensive, or more awesome. Appreciate you taking the hit for everyone and giving it a shakedown and us your honest feedback.
