Can a third party take delivery of your truck for you if you are out of the country?

Do all the celebrities take their CT in person. I doubt it.

More importantly I don't understand how it is legal for Tesla to refuse POA. If someone with POA can buy million $ home in my name, why can't they get a CT ?!
And it's probably not registered in the celebrities name.

Easy to fake? Sure.

But anyone in the know would understand that you verify the PoA through the notary who certified it.
How do you verify it? With the person that it represents?

Hence the need for that person to be there when the vehicle is picked up!

Unlike a house that you pretty much always know where it is, a vehicle can quickly be absconded with and effectively stolen via fraud.
You pretty much know where the house can be found.

Oh, in that case I'm far more inclined to believe that the service centers don't have the most legally correct info, or they have been instructed to just say no (for various reasons, of course). Functionally speaking, PoA's through corporations are exactly the same as individual citizen PoA's. And I don't see Tesla refusing to do business with other corporations lol.

Several states have explicit sanctions codified into law for businesses who refuse to honor valid PoA's without due cause. And I can think of several good reasons why this is an important protection.
They have posted their requirements. If you don't meet their requirements, they don't have to sell to you.

I believe that is legally binding.

They can't know 'the owner called them'.

They have various ways to verify the identity of the owner. When you call Tesla how do they verify you ? If you call Tesla and tell them to hold your order how do they verify you ?

Where - do they say that when you finalize the order ?

Also, they will let a company or business own the car, right ? Then they have to deal with a POA since the "company" can't take the CT in person.

Government issued I.D. and a phone-call to the notary who affixed their seal.

If Tesla enters a purchase agreement with someone, then backs out due to them not having the warm and fuzzies in a PoA, they are in breach of contract. I don't know what's so hard to understand about this concept.?‍♂

Do you guys think the ultra rich and famous go around making purchases like this using their own name?

I went into our local service center and was told that it was ok for my son to pick it up with a power of attorney from me .

They don't need to verify it's you, usually.

But when it comes to handing over the truck, the liability of handing it over to the wrong person is alot bigger than 'what if someone messed with your appointment'.

Government issued I.D. and a phone-call to the notary who affixed their seal.
...and someone to take that responsibility and have that detailed knowledge and training at the service center. This isn't something for a basic sales person or tech to deal with.

That's great news. Which state?

Washington

Also during my purchasing process I searched the Tesla site and didn't see any references to a POA for California (only EU, GB, and Netherlands). I went on google as well and did "site:Tesla.com power of attorney" (and various permutations). So if Tesla has it in black and white on their site that would of course be great information for everyone to have.

My guess is local service center people just say as a matter of fact that the owner needs to be in person to pick up - without thinking about the possibility of POA. I think if someone seriously challenged them on why they wouldn't accept POA - they probably will.

It's not the customers burden to train Tesla employees in basic commerce ?‍♂

It's not common at all. I don't know a single place I worked that would allow a basic clerk or service agent to deal with a power of attorney document.
