He probably hurt his foot. However, even though he was in the wrong, I would have still stopped short of entering the crosswalk until he was clear. The cars in the next lane over did exactly that.
he had a do not walk sign. NO CHANCE he was in the right.

Dude you see him crossing the road, pedestrians always have right of way. You should have waited for him to cross regardless of his complete lack of attention to the traffic signals. Yes he’s completely spaced out, but be responsible and keep everyone out of harms way. Situations like this are best dealt with through patience and just letting it go. It’s not that difficult.

Vancouver BC?

Unfortunately, no. He merely has to yield to let you pass under those conditions, but you are also forbidden from running him over.

So... No, not really. In California, if you can't clear the intersection - and the crosswalk is part of the intersection - you're in the wrong.

When I was thirty years younger and a car stopped in the crosswalk I'd just walk over the top when the light turned my direction.

Isn't that exactly what I said?
Maybe but then I wasn't talking about you. If you walk out into traffic you deserve to get hit that's why there are signs and lights and crosswalks. be responsible

I don’t know where you are, but everywhere is not California, FYI. I can guarantee you, around these parts, that guy would be run over and that would just be the end of it. (I’m not advocating that, I’m just stating fact. We have a very long history of running wayward pedestrians right-over in this town). We built pedestrian bridges and barricades to keep people away from the places where the cars go. Separation is the best solution.

AND, pedestrians do not ALWAYS have the right of way anywhere in the US. Jaywalking (which is basically what this was) does not provide you with either the legal or moral authority to be in the middle of an active thoroughfare with your head up your a$$.

EVERYONE has to be responsible for their actions. He’s fortunate that he encountered OP, not me. This would’ve been a different story about a guy getting his ass kicked.

You break the law and then kick my car, while I’m sitting in it after I just, basically, saved YOUR life and stopped your negligence from ruining my day (and possibly getting your greasy face-prints all over my frunk)?!? Interesting reaction …

The Cybertruck had the right of way to the jaywalking pedestrian, but it's still the driver's responsibility to make every reasonable attempt to avoid hitting him, regardless of who had the right of way. Most drivers would do what the driver to the left of the Cybertruck did and wait, other drivers might just drive past in front of the pedestrian and still be technically in the right. Stopping on the sidewalk in front of the pedestrian isn't terribly productive choice in any case, since you're just drawing out the whole issue and making it even less safe for everyone involved.

That's not how right of way works.
