We've had two magnets on our Cybertruck for six and seven months respectively and have only been removed twice, for videos. The three-month check in was also posted on CTOC. With the rumors of pitting and corrosion, and no shortage of salt on the roads (and on Cybertruck) this snowy NJ winter, we thought we'd take a look behind the magnets to find what we can find.

Update:

@Brandon708 here are some pics I just took with the magnets removed and the tailgate cleaned. I did get off most of the adhesive residue from the magnet that was on the driver's side of the tailgate. Pics go all the way to 5x optical zoom, I can't see any discoloration at the edges IRL nor is it easy to figure out exactly where on the tailgate the magnets have been sitting the last half year or so.

seems like dirt around the edges.
definitely dirt around the edges. i didn't clean off underneath before re-applying the last time. Also still some adhesive residue from the price tag which is the trapped gunk.

Thanks for the video. Can you show a video (or photo) of you cleaning the tailgate so we can compare the oval where the magnet was to the rest? Its hard to tell when your truck is dirty. I am expecting to see a slight color difference in the stainless.

Waste of time, didn't even wipe it to see if it is actual corrosion. Everything is clickbait now.
Pics posted to the thread with tailgate cleaned at various levels of zoom. Really nothing to see, you'd be hard-pressed to tell magnets were ever on the tailgate let alone had been in the same spots for 7+ months.

Looks like there is zero effect from the magnets.
I was a bit surprised at this result honestly. After the duration of installation, and a salt-infested winter here in NJ, I figured there would be some clearly visible differences around the edges and potentially underneath. After I wiped down the tailgate I really can't tell at all where the magnets were placed.

I reinstalled them in roughly the same locations, I unfortunately didn't take exact measurements beforehand, so I could continue the test. So far, so good!

Oh, I should note my truck sits outside most of the year. I do garage in winter but really only when overnight temps are below freezing to better protect the battery (and make for faster, more efficient, preconditioning in the morning).

I have a NYS Troopers magnet on the tai;gate and it gets knocked off with the power washer but there are no marks from rust or anything when it does get knocked off.

I have installed US Flag magnets just below Foundation Series logo.....got the idea from a member on this forum....they look great. When I wash the truck I remove them and haven't noticed any issue so far, 4 months and going strong
