If only the Cybertruck owner had driven a F150 instead. The steel frame would have simply bent, instead of snapping like the aluminum frame. Then it would have still been driveable ?
It’s a design feature for crash-worthiness - the rear subframe is designed as a break-away part, with intentional weak points to shear off.

Looks like the safety capsule design did what it was supposed to and sacrificed the bed for the occupants. Not exactly torn in two, it's supposed to crumple!

That's actually awesome.

Tough to the end.

Criminey. Where's the photo of the car that did all the damage?

I'll be honest, I can't see the "shear point" as being an intentional part of the CT design. The risks of the truck splitting apart are too great to make up for possibly reducing the forced to the occupants if the bed is struck in a very specific way

I'm sure that as soon as the bed separated, you'd get instant malfunctions across the truck and could lose things like steering, braking, acceleration, etc., and you risk things like coolant or the battery spilling/catching on fire

Not to mention that if the truck were moving when it got hit/t-boned, you're then forced to try and control the cab portion while the rear portion is dragging on the floor

Maybe I'm wrong, but it just doesn't sound right

Agreed on early comments re: speed in that setting. Looks like an outdoor pedestrian-friendly retail area. Appears the secondary impact created new loading options and bent the door frames for the pickup next door :(

G-Wagons are tough as nails.

The Cybertruck ‘s rear Gigi casting made a super clean break from the unibody. If this was an ICE vehicle the fuel tank would have been struck resulting in a significant fire.

That’s why the check engine light illuminates brightly on the said G-Wagon, to remind you of the toughness

The other impressive thing, all the glass on the tesla is still in tact, except the glass from the back seat to the bed is missing. That kind of force would usually bend frames/rotate them enough to at least crack windows...
