Well, this week I had the opportunity to drive around a FS/AWD while my FS/CB was getting the tonneau cover repaired and OEM light bar reattached.

So, I had my first opportunity to hear and play with the ā€œnew horn.ā€

I’m not gonna pussyfoot around, some of you who had the old horn and had the ā€œopportunityā€ to upgrade to the new one, and did are kidding yourselves if you think you made the right choice!!!

It doesn’t sound like a firetruck! It sounds like a toy firetruck, at best, and really a lot more like a ā€œsick duckā€ as others have described!

It’s barely audible from inside the cabin. And that frequency without the ā€œrumblerā€ used in real fire trucks and other emergency vehicles is just not going to get the job done! It’s no wonder that people don’t generally respond properly when you honk at them.

I know, I know you, guys are coming in hot to defend your stupid horn but I’m sorry I now know from hands-on personal experience that I made the right choice in not downgrading my OG horn to this nonsense.

You have my condolences and pity. ? Be well and God speed!

For those of you who are saying you never use your horn great; let’s hope you never need it!

1/10 would not recommend.

Still part of the Old Horn Dog crew, adds to the classic nature of the OG Foundation Series. Can't get that horn any more. In 30 years it will add many, many dollars of value. Many. Just wait.

Technically none of us have a horn.
If I understand your meaning, that’s actually not true.

Those of us with FS/CT’s before the cut off actually have a real horn. That’s the reason that it’s not reversible. If we chose to upgrade they reflash your system to disable the circuitry that powers the standard horn and we move, like you ā€œnew horns,ā€ to only having sound played through the external pedestrian speaker.

After that was made clear, is when I made up my mind that I was not going to ā€œupgrade.ā€

BINGO!

OG FS have an actual horn that is separate from the speaker.

My logic for not 'upgrading' is if the speaker dies, I don't really care but if the speaker is my horn and it dies I have a problem. Horns have been around a long, long, time. Simple circuits and more likely to reliable for the life of the vehicle without concern. The external speaker? I guess we'll see but I'm not risking my ability to trigger a loud sound if needed in an emergency situation.

I’m sorry. I do hope everybody realizes that I’m mostly poking fun here. I don’t really want anyone to feel bad about their decision.

I mean, that said, with all due respect - the OG horn is superior in every possible way!!!

What!? I said, ā€œwith all due respect!!ā€ Plus, some ?s are probably in to asthmatic sounding ducks. Right?

Poking fun at my pitiful and regrettable state of hornyness is low (even for a lawyer)

Mine has the upgraded sound that it came with (end of FS run CyberBeast OCT 24) and sounds LOUD like a firetruck when I lay on the horn.
I have no idea what this guy is talking about with it sounding like a lame duck, perhaps the electronic watered down version, I have no idea to compare, I just know mine is really loud and is why I hesitate sometimes to honk! At kids on the sidewalk when they jump and scream Cybertruck! and do the fist pump to blow the horn.

PS: I can clearly hear it even over loud music playing inside the cabin If that gives any indication of DB level.

This is the thing about this horn. Since I never heard it before, I never offered an opinion (although I certainly highlighted people saying that you can’t hear it; and have been consistently on team OG horn simply because it makes the truck unique now) but if you look back at all of the discussions that we’ve had about this …there are several owners who are saying they have it and it’s soft (and both pedestrians and other cars seem to not either hear it or understand what it is when they do) and others, like you, who are saying it’s loud as shit and scares the clothes off of people if/when they use it next to them.

All I can say is what I know. The one that I had through yesterday is soft and deeply unimpressive. It does not sound like the fire trucks around here (which are aggressive and loud and mean & also have the rumbler to REALLY get your attention).

So, I don’t know why we have this dichotomy of some people saying ā€œwinded duckā€ and folks like you saying, ā€œTyrannosaurus.ā€

All I know is, I’m glad I have the old one and I wouldn’t change it for any anything.

I also have the benefit of, if I wanted to, being able to put an air horn on it and have both the software and hardware to do that - whereas, those folks who have the new horn or opted to ā€œupdateā€ theirs do not.

Also, just for clarification if you have an OG/CT and you upgraded to the new horn it’s playing through the speaker just like the trucks that don’t have the horn at all.

The sound of the real horn is not adaptable. It’s a feature of air blowing through the hardware so the tone is the tone. Any truck that has the new sound is playing through the speaker whether you have the hardware or not. It’s just if you decided to do the upgrade you have permanently disabled your hardware and are only using the speaker.

So, I guess it’s possible that there’s some variation in the loudness of the speakers but that just doesn’t make any sense to me.

All I can say is, I have zero hearing loss and I’m one of those old guys who can still hear some of the higher frequency sounds that are supposed to only affect teenagers because of natural degradation. So, I think my hearing is better than average and this thing is soft to the point of being useless in my opinion.

I suppose there could be something wrong with the loaner they gave me, but everything else seem to be functioning perfectly so I don’t know.
