There is precedent to software limiting battery capacity (early Model S) and maximum DU power output (early Model 3). I don't know of a case where an entire DU was effectively disabled. Plus, there is a significant weight difference between a RWD (6118lbs) and AWD (6634lbs) suggesting the front motor is not there .

What makes you believe the front DU is installed and disabled?
For one, they aren’t going to be moving those 2024’s anytime soon.

We will see if anyone takes delivery soon with leather seats vs cloth

It’s page 17 and I haven’t seen any talk of crossbar mounting points. Did they at least keep them over the bed? Wish they had kept them in all 4 positions on all trims. They couldn’t have saved more than $100 per truck with that move.

I haven't read through all the post but it seems (based on price, what you get, etc), the AWD is the sweet spot.

I DO think Tesla should have maintained the seat cooling ability and the outlets in bed of the truck. These options couldn't have been too expensive to include. Once the RWD is available, the media, youtubers, etc are going to have a field day on some of the cuts Telsa made to bring the price down.

I thought with the slower than anticipated sales, they may cut the prices on the AWD and the Cyberbeast (excluding the tax break). but with the introduction of the RWD drive, seems unlikely now.

If you look at the pic of the button to open tailgate you can see the mounting point still

Basic supply and demand. CB is $20k more cause people are willing to spend $20k more. It's not that it cost $20k more to make. Personally, I don't think that $20k premium is worth it. I'd rather give it to Charity........or Destiny. Depends who's working. ;) ?

For those asking here’s how the back of the bed looks with soft cover tonneau. You can clearly see the mounting points are still present. Not sure if there is still a power connector but rail mounting points are present @ABILISK

if I see the RWD on the road, don't expect any wave from me. We don't know each other.
If you’re joking, I don’t get it, and move along.

If you’re not, don’t be like that, dude. Any CT is the greatest vehicle ever made. Still SS w/ SBW/RWS/etc.

Should Beast owners shun Dual Motors? Not at all. Dual Motors have the same towing/payload capacities as us, they just spent $27,500 less for an ever so slightly slower, but still incredibly fast truck.

The CT community is small enough. We don’t need elitist douchebags making it smaller.

Good deal. Hopefully the NFS Mars rack and basecamp RTT will work with this trim. Because Tesla’s CyberTent won’t as it attaches to the L-Track.

Yeah the removal of the L track was a bit wild, I know that can’t be that expensive. I’m sure 3rd parties will have solutions soon for those who opt to get a RWD.

personally I have no judgement I knew there would be cost cutting measures. But the 10k in my ? don’t justify all the removals. If you have the extra 10k or allotted finances for that difference in monthly payments I say opt for the awd. I feel your losing too much of what makes the Cybertruck so advanced.

but again if you buy the rwd don’t think you’ll be judged on your choices or those who got awd vs cyber beast should also be judged.

it’s a piece of marvelous engineering!!!!

Not following. Still trying to understand why you’re thinking RWD models will have a front motor. So you’re saying they’re going to remove motorized tonneau covers, swap to cloth seats, swap to 18ā€ wheels, and software disable the front motor on ā€˜24s to make this new ā€œRWD?ā€

If I was younger I would be all over the rear wheel drive. I would likely be making my own permanent bed cap (or putting one on with a tent and the ability to standup like the cybertruckco one) anyway so who cares about the tonneau. That is just added weight and complexity. The RWD with Tesla’s outstanding traction control would get it done and last forever with no problems. It is the essence of what a truck should be. With proper tires, a set of chains, and the locker, the truck would get me wherever I needed to go. I love the textile interior. I love no problems with front cv joints or stress on the suspension from the front drive. I love no air suspension to destroy tires and be a headache in the long run. I love that there is a bunch of extra room down below to mount a compressor or an AGM battery. It would be easy to find the parts for the smuggler’s bay or the power outlets. Still, a power station is the play for overlanding anyway. It’s possible to get power from the adapter without a separate inverter so no worries. I’m sure the sound is still outstanding. It is all truck and less fluff. I dig it. At my age the AWD is the right choice. Younger me would want the RWD and be very pleased. I just wouldn’t want all the extra comfort stuff there is no real need to have. Lean and mean. I bought my 2018 M3 with the RWD for some of these reasons. AWD is fine, but it isn’t necessary, and introduces plenty of headaches with front end complexity. RWD is also such a delight to drive. Never regretted it. The car is still solid as a rock. I like the RWD truck a lot. 10k is 10k.

Edit: No tonneau cover also allows for the much desired pass through between the cabin and the bed. The spout behind the rear arm rest is essentially ready to removed. Instant pass through. Look on the bright side folks.
That's EGGS_ACTLY the way to look at this AMA2!NG TRUCK that's built to be a PROPER THING....

AGREED ‼
