I have a recurring issue that Tesla has not addressed with a software update despite my constant and continuing bug reports. The wiper turns itself from OFF to Auto and dry wipes the windshield under clear blue, dry, sky’s. I then have to select the wiper and turn it back to off which dry wiper a couple more times.

I bug report this constantly and have called over a dozen times with no fix in site. Is anyone else having this issue?

My wiper wipes randomly. Or, so I thought. My wife asked "Is it trying to wipe away the shadows of the trees?" Well, no, it's just... actually, let me check... Oh, yeah, the only time it phantom wipes is when I'm in partial shade on the highway. You know, the light/dark/light/dark flashes the epileptics don't handle well.

Has anyone noticed the same correlation?

I downloaded 2025.14.9 last night. My wiper didn't wipe this morning. After my drive home, I'll know if the problem was fixed among the multitude of "minor fixes" that 2025.14.9 corrected... I didn't notice any changes during my morning commute. (I wasn't even notified that Fluffy had updates on the screen)

Mine does the same thing, bright sunny day or cloudy days and it dry wipes the windshield. very annoying. Have a service call in two weeks hope they get it fixed.

The wipers switch to "auto" when FSD is engaged.

You need to clean the windshield underneath the Glare Shield.

How long did this mitigate the issue? The trade off between dealing with a completely random 4ft pendulum dragging across my line of sight versus me damaging the sensor or camera rendering my vision system inoperable isn’t a great dilemma to have. Have you ever heard of Tesla offering to perform this cleaning?

Btw, do you happen to have before-and-after images from when you cleaned it?

They clean it for free once under warranty. They actually recommended it in the app last year.

I’ve been to the Tesla service center and research this a few times. This is definitely a software bug. I’m curious if the latest update fixed it though.

Constantly, it is so annoying! I have to tell the Truck "Wiper off" at least 6 times in a 20 minute drive to work. I do notices its worse on cloudy days. I also cringe every time it wipes dirt across my glass!! I wish OFF means OFF and if I need the Wiper I will turn it on, quit activating Auto, I don't use Auto Head Light Bright Dimmer for the same reason.

When did 14.9 come out? I’m on 14.7 and there are no updates showing on my app.

I don't know when it came out. I had a notification that I had an update available last night so I installed it. Figures that the ONE TIME I get an update early, it doesn't do much. Why, oh why couldn't I be an early one for ASS? Or, heck, I'd just like my truck to be able to park at home!

Sorry, I neglected to get images of the glass before cleaning, but it was visibly dirty.

The haziness on the glass mostly accumulates from the plastic outgassing, responsible for the "new car smell", which diminishes over time. I cleaned the area last October and currently get about one "phantom wipe" per 100 miles. (My issue was not the wiper, but getting "VISION OBSCURED TAKE OVER IMMEDIATELY" when driving in FSD toward a low sun.)

You'd have a hard time damaging the camera, but the procedure is not without risks. The beauty cover houses the Manual Gear Selector/Hazards control board, and the glare shield has the GPS antenna. I opted to not disconnect them, since the connectors were very snug and I did not want to risk damage. Others have damaged the cover retaining clips, but I pried gently without issue.

I'm happy to let qualified professionals make repairs, particularly for warranty claims, but no one will be more circumspect with a vehicle than its owner.

When I installed the rear view camera it was a bitch to remove the manual shift housing. The clips were incredibly strong and tight. It also took a few tries to get all the wiring tucked up in the beauty cover.

Agreed, the clips can be problematic, which is why I used trim-removal tools.

The SC may take issue with your 3rd-party electronic mirror if you ask them to perform the cleaning procedure. They might refuse, or make you waive claims over damage.
