Hello Guys!

Great site, happy to be here...

Am looking to purchase a Cybertruck, I already own a couple of recent Teslas so am familiar...

Tempted to get a New 2024 with the 10k Discount... but wondering what are the latest month builds that have all the issues sorted out?

I know there have been some recalls, so I would prefer to have my truck came with all recalls corrected since production, no service center jobs.

Is the cybertruck in general reliable?

Let me know and thanks!

I would go 30k VIN # or higher, that should get you past all the major issues, that have have been fixed to date.

Still waiting on decent ventilated seats, aero covers that do not scratch rims, FSD, etc

But going 30k+ on VIN will get you past the scary stuff and most the early build quality issues.
The 2024s with 10k off are a very solid deal, if you have a business you are buying them through the best offer on a CT so far.

Honest answer in my case is it’s the least reliable Tesla I’ve ever owned. But, that’s relative since none of the others have had any reliability problems. We have owned a total of five.

I’ve had to have my tonneau cover repaired (wouldn’t fully close) and I’ve had two occasions where the car falsely reported that there was a problem with both of my rear motors. This is a known software issue and it has not resulted in me needing to take the car to service. It has, however, on both occasions caused me to have to drive home under limited power.

That’s the full extent of it in about 10 months worth of ownership. My VIN number is in the low 25K range.

For 30k vin I only have to look at the last six digits of the vin?

29500 CB vin here, 16k miles no issues that wasn’t self inflicted. Can’t rail recall not done yet but it’s not coming off or anything. Biggest dislike for me is headlights are not as bright as my M3P.

Get the Tactical Grey interior, for some reason they are made way better and have no recalls like the standard interior.
24k Vin FYI, go rock crawling and smoke corvettes with no issues

12K VIN, May 2024 build. No issues other than sail applique recall (I had no issues with mine) and maybe the wiper motor recall? Hard to remember.

I did have my mega-wiper blade replaced under warranty after just three months, no charge to me and did it during the service visit for the sail appliques. Was streaking quite badly. Newer blade is better.

I do have an AWD, preferred default RWD over the FWD of the Beast and ability to lock the diffs mechanically which came in handy during snow and ice season.

I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a 2024 FS with FSD and lifetime supercharging along with a big discount.

Thought I'd provide some data on my ownership experience so you can make an informed decision. In short (and not surprising), you should def get a CT. You'll love it. Truly an amazing and best vehicle I've ever owned.

Like you, I also owned a Tesla before the CT (2020 Model Y, wife had a 2021 Model 3, traded in for a 2024 Model 3 back in October).

  • My CT was built on Nov 15, 2024 (VIN 52xxx). Took delivery on Dec 10.
  • Have 3,500 miles on it.
  • Overall, mine has been quite solid. Cantrails are fine (they have the bolt and nut where the cantrail meets the frunk) but they are still going to do the recall on it. Mine are solidly attached.
  • During delivery, the only real cosmetic issue I had was some cuts in the rear passenger doorways. Not sure what it's called but it's the interior lining from the b-pillar down to the floor. If you search these forums, you'll see others have had the same thing. My delivery advisor said it was bc the factory puts the wheel covers in the back seat and as the truck is shipped via rail, it ends up cutting into it. It was replaced during a service visit.
  • The one issue I've noticed is the service centers don't have a ton of knowledge on the Cybertruck. So, if there are issues that occur, they may take longer than usual to diagnose and fix it or the fix may be done sloppily.
  • I've had 3 service visits (back in February), but it was all for 2 things:
    • Frunk switch started to malfunction (the frunk would automatically open on it's own if the truck was not locked). Ironically, it occurred right after a software update. Resolution was to replace the frunk switch.
    • The wiper is not good in the winters when there is a lot of salt slush that gets on to the windshield. I noted this in my service appt just so they had the data but they decided to replace the wiper motor. The tech didn't calibrate the motor after the replacement, so I had to go back to have them recalibrate it.
      • They did issue a software update back in April to double the amount of fluid that's sprayed to clean the windshield but I won't know until this winter to see if it is effective.
    • Tonneau slat: mine was built with one slat missing. Functionally, the tonneau worked fine but since it was in the Tesla Service Manual to add an extra slat, I had them do it. This, they did perfectly.
    • Cantrail Recall: My next service is in June for this.
  • Overall, I've been super happy with the truck.
Based on all of the things I've read on this forum, I'd suggest getting one that's built in November 2024+

Hope this helps!

Thanks, that was useful! Which Boston-area SC did you go to? I've been thinking about the missing slat, but don't want the SC to worsen the situation, so haven't done it. And, I wonder about that washer fluid update. Mine seems rather spartan compared to how much fluid my Model 3 squirts. I'll have to go thru the software update notes to see if my truck got it.
