No. I’ll check it out but it would have to be SUPER tempting to give up the free supercharging on this one.
Come on, a minivan and a truck in the driveway both with free gas for life? That took some doing and I can tell you from experience is worth WAY more than people say it is.
Yeah, not worth it for you. It’s free supercharging, premium connectivity, FSD and a 4 year service plan. Very enticing for new buyers, but not worth trading one already with free supercharging in for.

To anyone considering one of these, it’s the perfect compliment to a Cybertruck if you ask me.

Any of you X owners wish for non falcon wing doors in the rain? I had a neighbor get rid of theirs for that reason as there aren’t any gutters or water channels on there. I wouldn’t see it as a big deal, but they sure did.
Good question. If we ever get any rain in Nevada again, I’ll let you know.

That’s crazy. They shine in the rain. They act as umbrellas when I’m loading the kids up. I have literally never seen outside water in the car before.
This 2024 is our second x so I’m very used to the doors. We transferred free supercharging to it from our 2016 signature series model x.
We had some good memories in that titanium p90D we called Myrtle and were well on our way to 200k miles, but we couldn’t turn down the transfer offer to a new car last year when they were really hurting for sales.
Believe it or not the part of the x you’d think is most problematic (the doors) mechanically has always been flawless for us. It has some insurmountable sensor quirks when the weather gets really hot which make you need to fully open the door “manually” but they are a bomb proof piece of engineering otherwise. The external “seals” on the top surface of the car get worn down from sun exposure rather fast but it’s purely cosmetic. They don’t actually keep water out.
Our current one is a HW4 car so it’s leaps and bounds better.
Probably shouldn’t say this on COC but in some ways it’s still the best car Tesla makes.
FSD on this ultra red HW4 Model x is light years ahead of my truck in terms of gaining my trust.
Still….we miss Myrtle.
If they ever make an x with drive by wire, 4 wheel steering and a front camera, I’ll be whipping out the checkbook again.
Not really.lol. I’m not even sure I have a checkbook. Who writes checks any more?

Same. Had a 2020 for four years and never had water ingress.

I’m actually just about due for tires on the x because we use it so much. Anyone got a good recommendation or just go with whatever Tesla equips it with?
Ace, take a look at Costco for tires (if you have one near you). I just got a set for my Y from there. It came out to a few dollars more than I could have gotten the same tires from one of the discount tire places, but their warranty is really good I've heard (haven't had to use it yet), but most of the reviews said if there's an issue they just fix or replace it no questions asked. 5yr with roadside hazard, nitrogen filled and free rotations included. That's why I went with them. I went with the Michelin E-Primacy if it helps your decision, so far no complaints, quiet and drives good.

To provide object detection, Tesla developed ultrasonic sensors that operate through the sheet metal body. That would not work with the stainless steel. FSD wasn't ready at launch, so vision based object clearance wasn't available either.
It's also more electronics to convert to 48V, plus larger doors means larger actuators, and rear doors open ~90 degrees.

1) The ‘X’ doors are what makes that vehicle original and purchased to date, although slowing down.

2) Tesla would have had a total different design if went with those doors, AND we would’t have had our outstanding old and new ‘structural pieces that span the window pillars on either side of the roof’ 🤪

Check out Costco for Michelin cross climates. They were awesome on my X.

I’m liking the Costco idea. Thanks you guys who suggested that.
Basically all I care about is that car is rain performance and durability. The Michelin sounds like a good choice.
We deliberately went with AWD even though we got a 6 seater and it’s our family hauler.
Do any of you do the tire insurance thing from Tesla that was posted today?
That actually sounds like a pretty solid deal. Is there a catch I’m missing?

A big problem with gull wing doors is that they preclude the use of a roof rack. No ladders, canoes, kayaks or any other long loads need apply. Not a good idea for a pickup truck. This was also a problem with the Model X which kept it from being a useable "Sports Utility Vehicle" for many people.

That’s true. Trailer hitch mounted solutions have worked well for us on the x over the years though.

Those are nice, and I believe it is actually easier to exit the car with falcon doors than regular ones, but they are slightly impractical, sort of fragile and can break, kinda gets old after a while... etc

Wholeheartedly disagree . Have owned an x since 2016 and it’s still my favorite feature.
I should mention also that if there are car seats in your family, going back to conventional doors, with or without 90 degree opening feels like a sentence.
