Just need to be precise here. Only the Plaid models the 22 speaker/960w system.

So, anybody comparing an X or an S that isn’t specifically comparing the Plaid “premium audio” versions is probably correct in terms of sound quality being better in the CT. Some have said they are but many of these comments do not.

Gotta at least be comparing the right apples and oranges.
So, need to wait till a Plaid CT comes around 😎

I still love my vinyl collection too. Something about it just feels more organic and connected even though I know in my head lossless audio is where it’s at.

You sure?

For 2026, Tesla site does not say this specifically. It talks about the sound system in generality; does not mention Plaid only.

Plaid Upgrades
  1. Tri Motor Performance All-Wheel Drive
  2. 1,020 Horsepower
  3. 9.9 sec Quarter Mile
  4. Carbon Fiber Décor
  5. Performance Brake Pads with Red Calipers

Yes. I’m certain. But now that I’m looking at it that might’ve been a distinction that doesn’t exist after the refresh? I was going to mention the year matters too. But maybe for reasons other than I was thinking. 🤔

One thing about Tesla not sticking to model year for upgrades means that you do have to have detailed knowledge of what was going on exactly when the car you’re considering was produced.

Probably goes back much further but my first cognizance of this was with our first Tesla—my wife’s very early vin model Y. The couple of months between production of her Y and my dad’s Y performance meant that he got amber signal lights in his taillights and she didn’t, and then a couple of months after that they started putting double paned glass in the front windows.

ah ok. I stand corrected.
actually I am right. @dalton108 See Grok:

The Tesla Model X does not come with two distinct audio systems as standard equipment. Instead, it features a single, high-quality audio system, with the configuration depending on the model and year.

For the 2021 and later Model X (Palladium refresh, including Long Range and Plaid variants), Tesla includes a premium audio system with 22 speakers and 960 watts of power, featuring Active Road Noise Reduction. This is standard across all trims and is the same for both Long Range and Plaid models.

and Chatgpt:

Here’s what I found: both the 2026 Tesla Model X (standard AWD) and the Plaid version share the same audio system—specifically, a 22‑speaker, premium/“Ultra High Fidelity” setup. There’s no indication that Tesla has outfitted the Plaid trim with a different or enhanced sound system compared to the regular Model X

Yeah, I updated my post while you were doing this (I did the same as you just using Chat instead). SOOOO, I stand corrected at least for 2021 though present. But see my updated comment above for more.

For what it’s worth, I was very much underwhelmed by the 2026 X sound system. Despite the 22 speakers and wattage, the audio was good but not amazing. I actually prefer the CT audio (AWD and Cyberbeast).

I am not a bass heavy person. I pretend to be an audiophile at times in my head. 😂

Yeah, this is all so subjective. Like you, I’m a fake audiophile (I don’t really like the things that they value. A flat pure audio profile does not sound good to me). I’ve got excellent hearing and until my mid 40s I could still hear the frequencies that they used for a while to annoy teenagers in the mall because only they were supposed to hear them. And some of this just comes down to what people can hear based on their age and whether they’ve had a phase shift etc.

I listen to jazz, rock, reggae and rap and everything in between. The commonality in my listening taste is — I don’t really care about mids I want clean base and crisp highs and I want it loud. Very! I want to hear the upright bass in my jazz, I want to hear the bass and tempani in my symphony; 808 in my reggaeton.

How you know that I’m not a real audiophile is that I actually like Bose systems (even though my Vett’s audio can be muddy, it’s got what I want for top down driving fast). And I’m pretty sure Bose is the audio equivalent of wine in a box to those guys.

Boons farm box fruit wine
I like the little speakers they sell. They sound much bigger than they should.

But, BOSE is very much against what you like. No highs, no lows, must be BOSE. Bose is all about midrange and midbass. Their system tends to be that way...so BOSE generally gives a good first impression because most folks prefer hearing vocals and good mid-bass. And their equalization tends to tame the frequencies quite a bit at high volume to prevent blowing out their cheap cones.
