Are cheap S and X models are coming too?
I'd highly doubt it. There isn't enough volume to justify it.

There is no rumor on a cheap S/X or Cheaper CT. We know for sure a Cheap MY is coming and some believe a cheap M3.
I think there is a very strong chance of a LFP 3 that'll be cheaper than the LR RWD (though likely more than RWD 3 with tax credit)... beyond that iffy. Probably depends how much can cross over from the cheap Y.

If this is accurate (claims to be in the tesla.com code) there's 1 vehicle launching soon and it's only $5k less than the LR RWD MY.

I hope so but don’t have high hopes for that.
I’d buy a completely range focused S.

IMO 39,990 isn't a low enough price to justify this model. DOA (like RWD CT) if that is the price.
Agree. Lip service to investors pushing for cheaper cars.
Potentially a utilitarian version for Robotaxi use.

If it was 35k, I could see it. That would be a solid 10k less than the RWD Y since the tax credit is gone. 40k and is likely still RWD with less range, just stretching to 45k makes a lot more sense... or buying used.

Hopefully the leak is wrong or missing context.

Cheaper car with stripped features.

Not!

Just buy a used Tesla minus the front light bar and bumper camera…save $10k and still get the features you want!

It's a terrible car for RT as it doesn't have a rear screen. The Cybercab will fill that void for Tesla.

Probably true. Didn’t think of the rear screen issue. It just kind of looks like they will be a using test drivers for a while in lots of markets and the cybercab doesn’t really do that.

Seems multiple people are saying it's currently in the code on Tesla.com.

Maybe they offer incentives? Maybe that price has FSD included so there will be an 8k lower version?

If this is accurate, it's as big of a miss as the RWD CT, which most here said was a terrible misstep by Tesla.

Or maybe it’s just like the $50k Cybertruck. The best predictor of future behaviors is generally past behaviors.

There will be no cheap S/X, these are premium vehicles. If you like the Model S but it costs too much, get a Model 3. If you like the Model X but it costs too much, get a Model Y.

Tesla has historically offered lower-cost versions of the Cybertruck and Model 3 via "de-contenting" (removing features). The de-contented RWD "Long Range" Cybertruck was not successful and has been discontinued. The de-contented RWD Model 3 was introduced last year in Mexico, but it doesn't appear to be currently available either.

A de-contented Model Y seems like a logical next step. But if the specs and pricing in the leak are accurate, it may not be a big hit.

I’m serious though. I’d genuinely buy that car. An S with 2wd and cloth seats and smallish wheels with lots of rubber and no rear screen and 500 plus miles of range. Maybe even scratch the display behind the wheel and luxe package to make it cheaper than the M3P
That would be my perfect work commuter

Just get a Model 3. I don't think Tesla wants/plans to put 500 miles of range in any vehicle.

The MS is barely selling and it's relatively hand made. There's not a ton of cost they can cut out of it. The 3/Y (supposed to be CT as well) were created as mass production vehicles.

I know you’re right, but I hate the 3 in comparison. Please don’t be offended 3 people. It’s small, doesn’t feel as safe and the suspension as well as the seats are a huge downgrade. The steering feels twitchy by comparison, the cargo space is way inferior and so on. Plus, what’s wrong with a 500 plus mile range car? Are they afraid of kicking the goalposts too far away from themselves?
Not with the kids but a car I could climb into and drive to Vegas from Phoenix on one charge would be giant win for me.
