I self installed my powershare system, $2850 for the material on a install and wiring labor seems great for what all was involved. I was quoted 5k from a local installer.
Question - do you have to activate this with Tesla? If yes, did they ask if a certified installer did it to activate ? Or can we just run the city permits as DIY and install it and get it activated?

You do have to activate in the Tesla one app. I think alternatively you can submit permits now to support. They don’t validate installers that are chosen in the app according to a friend.

I paid right around that same amount for my PowerShare and Gateway setup earlier this year. Wolf River Electric handled the whole installation, including the local permits and utility sign-off. Given the amount of subpanel rewiring and the 200A main breaker separation required for bi-directional charging, $2,850 is a very fair price for parts and labor. If your quote includes the permit fees, I'd go for it.

My installation costs were quoted at $5500-$6700. I opted to take the $2500 value in supercharging miles. We have had two power outages in 35 years at our house so I thought I really didn't have a reason to really "need" it. I might have been able to use it at our cottage in Ontario Canada where power is totally unreliable but I opted for a meter disruption plug so we could plug in a generator. That was something like $750 installed. So again far less than PowerShare and the generator does the job without draining the truck. Sometimes the power at the cottage is out for 5-6 days. Your $2850 IMO is fair.
